What should I buy, Samsung Galaxy S3 or iPhone 5?

Q. I'm getting a new phone next week (Thursday) and I really need to decide which one is better. My current phone is a Blackberry Bold and my dad thinks that iPhones are better since they have greater value than the Samsung.

So please help me which to buy. I'm really confused. Btw, I never really had an iPhone and any Galaxy S series but I have an iTouch 4. And most of the people are buying iPhone 5 now. My friends has iPhone 5 or even the iPhone 4s now.

A. Don't be mainstream!
I hate it when people are like this on Facebook/Twitter:
"Ermagherd, check it out a iPhone i'm so hipsterrrrrr #swag #yolo"

Anyway, Samsung Galaxy S3 is better value than iPhone 5, why? Here are some manufacturing costs for you to consider:
iPhone 5: $207 for basic 16GB (estimate: IHS)
Samsung Galaxy S3: Around $200.

Now, consider outright price:
iPhone 5: $649
Galaxy S3: ~$410.

Hence, Galaxy S3 better value for money.

Better value for features too:
iPhone 5
Apple Maps (not a feature, a negative, really.)
Passbook (Does not work for us here in Australia, not a feature.)
App Store (Ok, real plus)
Facebook App actually works.
Retina Display (not a feature anymore, really with 1080p phones now available).
Siri (Still broken)

Galaxy S3
S Voice (Very Very broken)
Play Store (Some second rate apps there).
Google Maps. (Good)
Smart Stay (Gimmick)
S-Whatever (All Gimmicks)
NFC (Good, you can use your phone as a travelcard)
SuperAmoled Display (Depends on whether you like them or not).

Ok, so about even on good vs useless features (Those are the ones I know off the top of my head).

If you can wait another 2 or 3 weeks, get the Galaxy S4, it's better than the iPhone 5 by a long shot.
And you have an iTouch 4, so you don't need an iPhone
(I have the same deal, iTouch for Apple account cause I got lots of iTunes stuff, and Galaxy S2 cause I like Android).

Thinking of buying a new radio. What does Garmin App Ready mean? In detail please.?
Q.

A. download to the radio and it will allow you to navigate using Garmin on the radio and getting the internet from your phone

Garmin® Navigator turns your Android phone iPhone into a personal GPS, with features from the nüvi® personal navigators from Garmin, the IFA 2012 App of the year winner and leading US provider of personal navigation devices. With no data charges on the Telstra network after downloading the app and no ads, Navigator includes free basic navigation with premium features requiring a subscription or day pass.
FREE features include:
- Driving and walking directions that track progress on a map
- Always up-to-date maps for Australia with millions of included points of interest
- Navigate to addresses in your Contacts

Apples mapping failure couldnt have come at a better time for Garmin. With public transport options ready to go, Garmin have updated their Navigon app for iOS 6, complete with support for the iPhone 5s taller 4 inch display. Garmin StreetPilot Onboard will also follow shortly with an iOS 6 update in the near future, complete with their alternative to Street View.

The public transport options include support for trains, trams, buses and water taxis, as well as Garmins new Last Mile feature, demonstrated at the IFA: consumer electronics trade show in Berlin earlier this month.

According to the Official Garmin Blog: Users will be guided to a transit stop by foot and be able to look up detailed information on what line to take and where to get off. The new Last Mile function automatically saves the location of the users car when continuing by foot, making it easy to find it on the way back.

Apples own mapping app provides links to third-party navigation and mapping apps to provide the missing public transport features. Garmins updated apps join the list of supported services, so you can jump from app to app as painlessly as currently possible. Its not the ideal situation, but its currently the best option available until Apples native mapping experience is up to scratch.

Its surprising that Apple didnt choose to licence these features from the likes of Garmin in order to make their native mapping experience more feature complete, instead of delivering a half-baked app like they have this week. Its possible that they may have tried and failed to partner with third-party mapping companies, although no rumours of such talks have ever leaked. Surely, Apple has some plans in the works other than to leave users wanting until Apple themselves catch up.

Based on the current negative attention iOS maps is attracting, Apple may be forced to strike a deal with a third-party to quickly bring the native experience up to parity with the competition. Google have already stated that they want to bring Google Maps to every possible platform, so its only a matter of time before we see an official Google Maps app in the iOS App Store. There have been rumours that Google already have an app awaiting approval from Apple, but this has not been officially confirmed.

Until Google or Apple bring a more complete mapping experience to the iOS ecosystem, it looks as though Garmin might be the best port of call for the time being.

Nokia made in Finland is kick ass despite of the fabric poor android OS dominance just last Q3 in 2012.

The Black Box and sauna?

If it was not for Linux alot of programs would have nnot been coded. Nokia would have never revolutionized the mobile industry..

Thus anndroid would not be here ..

Not to mention these kick butt Metal bands I hear from there .. that guy Alexi Laiho his guitaring is amazing and they act like regular people not snobby like America's Lars..

They with only 350.000 troops vs about 950.000 troops took down russia lol in winter war i mean are these guys that one country that is THE notable kick ass one but just not popular like in the STATES.
Nokia's just about dead.

The black box and sauna are not Finnish FAR FROM DEAD EVEN IF THEY WERE THEIR 20 YR REIGN IS STIL BETTER THAN THIS NEW BULLSHIT .

Thanks alot though mate your smart!

A. It probably has a lot to do with their education system. Finnish children don't do their first year of school until they are seven years old. By this time they have a lot more maturity to deal with being away from home all day and handling the classroom situation. Statistically they have some of the highest achieving students in the world.

There are a few things I need to correct people on though:

* Linux is a clone of Unix. The Mac OS X family tree goes back first to NeXTstep and then to BSD, which is UNIX. Linux has had no influence on the development of OS X. Linux is different enough from UNIX that it cannot legally be called by that name.
* Android would not exist had Eric Schmidt, one of the heads of Google, not had first hand access to Apple's secret iPhone project while it was still in development because he was on the board of directors. Before this the Google Nexus phone looked just like a Blackberry.
* The Black Box flight recorder was invented in Australia.

edit: going by the wikipedia article on black box flight recorders you posted, the French have an earlier claim to its invention than the Fins. The type in use on all commercial aircraft today is the Australian one.

Should I get a Samsung Galaxy S2 or an iPhone 5?
Q. Should I get a Samsung Galaxy S2 or an iPhone 5?
I currently have a small old phone for texting and calls and an iPod touch for music. I would like to replace these devices with one smartphone. I would be using this smartphone for making calls, texting, listening to my music and video collection, surfing the internet, checking social networks and possibly more. I am thinking of an iPhone 5 (when it comes out) or a Samsung Galaxy S2. Below are my reasons for each one:

Samsung Galaxy S2
- 8MP camera with LED flash
- 1080p Full HD video recording
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread: very customisable
- Dual Core application processor - blazing fast speeds
- 5.1 simulated surround sound
- Expandable storage (MicroSD 16GB, 32GB)
- 4.3 inch screen - not too big, not too small
- Super AMOLED Plus display - said to be better than the iPhone 5's Retina display
- Cheaper phone - there are many good deals in Australia for this phone at the moment
- Android apps are slightly cheaper than iPhone apps

iPhone 5 (hasn't been announced yet, below are the most likely features in the phone)
- iOS 5 - very easy to use (this doesn't really matter to me as I am very adept with technology)
- 8MP camera with LED flash
- HD video recording (720p or 1080p)
- Apple's A5 chip
- iTunes and iPhone just work so perfectly together
- Brilliant syncing with computers (I have a Mac)
- 3.5 - 4.5 inch Retina display
- More apps on the App store
- I already have many Apps on my iPod Touch, which I can re-purchase on the iPhone free of charge. However, the iPhone 5 will be more expensive in terms of the actual handset, so this doesn't really matter

Please help me in any way you can! My heart says to go with the iPhone 5 and my brain says that I should go with the Galaxy S2.

Which phone should I get?

Thanks in advance.

A. get the galaxy S2!!!!!, and with a app called "double twist" you can sync all your itunes music to your android,
http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/roundup/398417/best_android_phones_editor_choice_august_2011_/?page=1#cb

I prefer android over apple for the reason that its open-source, that means that the majority of the apps are free, and you get more revolutionary and cutting edge apps, and do things are even only barely available on a jail broken iphone
The android market already has 250000 apps- closing in on apple 500000; some say it will surpass it before the year is over. Also any popular iphone game or game adaptation can be found in the android market for free.
Good droid apps
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AssdlSX6Uu0ck0rLLrCzxI7ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20110823164708AAwKyaC

Another great thing about android as that if you dont like something (keyboard, homescreen, etc.) it can easily be swapped without jail-breaking, unlike the iphones one-size-fits-all approach.

Despite the false rumors, The iphone is also just as, if not more vulnerable to viruses as android
http://www.pcworld.com/article/183763/experts_not_surprised_by_iphone_malicious_app_report.html

Other features only on android
Turn-by-turn voice GPS
Better and larger screen
No need to connect to computer to sync
Here is a big one, add a sd card
Live wallpaper
widgets
4g
More customizable
More powerful hardware
Flash support, watch ALL the online videos

Apple lovers that say that the iphone is made of better quality material? They dont realize that Samsung, an android phone maker, supplys the screen, processor and memory for apple devices, so android has the advantage here.
The iphone is pretty, but not durable, drop it once- it breaks, all that glass around it? That was honestly a mistake. Android manufactures clearly saw that, and decided to do with something a little more durable.

And the iphones retina display is a huge scam. By definition a retina display is one where the human eye cannot distinguish individual pixels. But this is determined by several factors; most important being the distance between the screen and your eyes. The iphones retina distance is 12in, move any closer than that- say 7in and its no longer a retina screen because your eyes can now see the pixels, by that same token, if I move my android phone back, to say 16-17in, amazingly, it becomes a retina screen as well! (feel free to google this)

Also apple never invents anything, there never the first. All they do is steal old technology, give it a fresh coat of paint and mass advertise it as magical and innovating, thus fooling the mass of the population into believing that apple offers cutting edge technology, that in fact has been around for quite a few years.
So instead of innovating, apple actually hinders technology- after 4 years they still have low-power single core phones, while android, an example of technology in overdrive, has rumored that, after their second year, the release of quad core phones that will surpass even some desktop computers in shear processing power. (now any 2011 android is smoother and faster than the iphone)

Apple should now feel pretty worried; android has passed it in market share
http://www.businessinsider.com/android-iphone-market-share-2011-4

Then apple panics and sues
http://www.dailytech.com/Google+ExCEO+Apple+Doesnt+Innovate+They+Sue/article22190.htm
The funny thing is that apple cant sue for being the first touchscreen or tablet, because they werent,(Nokia fist touch screen, archos first tablet) so instead they sue for much more relevant things like, the rounded icon corners and having a flat screen or the square shape of the phone..

To top it all, if youve seen apples 2011 presentation, they blatantly copied over five "new" features that were previously on android.
http://androidandme.com/2011/06/news/five-features-in-ios-5-that-show-how-apple-is-now-playing-catch-up-to-google/
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/06/06/apple-introduces-ios5-with-notifications-ota-updates-and-tabbed-browsing-android-users-giggle-at-their-late-arrival/
1. Notification bar
2. Twitter integration
3. No need to connect to PC to sync
4. Launch apps from lock screen
5. Tabbed browsing

And not only are they copies, but apple didnt even bother to improve, or change some of them in any way- some even have LESS features than their android counter parts, its basically a cheap imitation with the ever-popular iphone skin.
According to Steve jobs, these "revolutionary" new technologies that android users had since 2007 will be available on IOS5, and it would not surprise me to see some more android features from 2008 on IOS6.But the truly sad part is that due to apples marketing, in a few months, apple lovers will really think that apple invented those features and call android the copycatsyet again.

Questions about the Samsung Galaxy Note?

Q. Okay I'm 14 and I really like that phone, I've compared it to the iPhone and I figured it would be better

But the problem is that my mom doesn't really like 2 year contracts, so she's always got my brother and I prepaid phones from walmart(I don't even want to use mine anymore)

So my questions are
1.How much does it cost with a 2 year contract
2.How much does it cost without a contract
3.What company's carry this phone

I'm hoping she would get it since she got me a 32G iPod and a prepaid phone that was nearly around 200 dollars(I never got use to it, because it confused me and til this day I don't now how to use it, the settings are just really hard to understand)

A. Hi there!
I just bought the Galaxy Note yesterday on a plan and its brilliant! I transferrd from an LG phone but all i have always used my family's Apple phones so i do indeed know the difference. Without going into too much detail, i will answer your questions for you!!

1. I got it on a plan (In Australia) but still it might be around the same price. Anyway i got a $75 dollar plan at Crazy Johns. That included TWO phones that were BRAND NEW from the market and they were both amazing. It also included $750 talk and data as well as around 4-5 GB of data per month. Not to mention unlimited text!
If it was just for the Galaxy Note, then i would of got the same deal except for $55 dollars per month.
Depends on where you live but usually plans like that are around the same price. Really amazing deal we did.

2. One of the shops we went to (Overall we went to: Vodaphone, Crazy Johns, Telstra, Optus, Virgin, TeleChoice, Allphones and a few more places) had it for under $600. I think he said it was $540 or so but thats AMAZINGLY CHEAP. Notes are usually around the same price of a Iphone, if not higher. They are almost always above 700-800 guaranteed. Thats why plans are much more better. You get them straight away with $0 upfront, you dont have to go out all the time to restock your credit etc. AND you can get just about any fine for a reasonable price.

3. In Australia where i live pretty much every shop stocks them. If not, then they will. This phone is hot on the market and every was googling at my phone when i showed them it. My entire family and a few other people (who used iphones) were incredibly jealous of me. They were practically cradling it the moment i showed them it. Here are the only people in Australia i know who stock them, not including ALL shops:Vodaphone, Crazy Johns, Telstra, Optus, Virgin, TeleChoice, Allphones, Samsung

Get this phone. Its brilliant and simple. It takes a moment or two to get used to whe you go from apple to Samsung but you WILL NOT REGRET IT! For Upcoming smartphones such as the Iphone 5, i cant tell you if it will be better or not. I DONT think they will have it BIGGER than the Galaxy Note but for the other specifications, i have no knowledge on.

I CANT EMPHASISE HOW GREAT THIS PHONE IS. STOP THINKING ABOUT IT AND GET IT.

Screen is incredible for gaming. Iphone FINALLY seems like a little girl compared to the Galaxy.

Definitely a WIN for Android/Samsung

Another great thing about android as that if you dont like something (keyboard, homescreen, etc.) it can easily be swapped without jail-breaking, unlike the iphones one-size-fits-all approach.

Despite the false rumors, The iphone is also just as, if not more vulnerable to viruses as android
http://www.pcworld.com/article/183763/experts_not_surprised_by_iphone_malicious_app_report.html

Other features only on android
Turn-by-turn voice GPS
Better and larger screen
No need to connect to computer to sync
Here is a big one, add a sd card
Live wallpaper
widgets
4g
More customizable
More powerful hardware
Flash support, watch ALL the online videos

Apple lovers that say that the iphone is made of better quality material? They don’t realize that Samsung, an android phone maker, supply’s the screen, processor and memory for apple devices, so android has the advantage here.
The iphone is pretty, but not durable, drop it once- it breaks, all that glass around it? That was honestly a mistake. Android manufactures clearly saw that, and decided to do with something a little more durable.

And the iphones “retina display” is a huge scam. By definition a ‘retina display’ is one where the human eye cannot distinguish individual pixels. But this is determined by several factors; most important being the distance between the screen and your eyes. The iphones retina distance is 12in, move any closer than that- say 7in and it’s no longer a “retina screen” because your eyes can now see the pixels, by that same token, if I move my android phone back, to say 16-17in, amazingly, it becomes a retina screen as well! (feel free to google this)

Also apple never invents anything, there never “the first”. All they do is steal old technology, give it a fresh coat of paint and mass advertise it as “magical” and “innovating”, thus fooling the mass of the population into believing that apple offers cutting edge technology, that in fact has been around for quite a few years.

The funny thing is that apple can’t sue for being the first touchscreen or tablet, because they weren’t,(Nokia fist touch screen, “archos” first tablet) so instead they sue for much more relevant things like, “the rounded icon corners” and “having a flat screen” or “the square shape of the phone”……..

To top it all, if you’ve seen apples 2011 presentation, they blatantly copied over five "new" features that were previously on android.
http://androidandme.com/2011/06/news/five-features-in-ios-5-that-show-how-apple-is-now-playing-catch-up-to-google/
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/06/06/apple-introduces-ios5-with-notifications-ota-updates-and-tabbed-browsing-android-users-giggle-at-their-late-arrival/
1. Notification bar
2. Twitter integration
3. No need to connect to PC to sync
4. Launch apps from lock screen
5. Tabbed browsing

And not only are they copies, but apple didn’t even bother to improve, or change some of them in any way- some even have LESS features than their android counter parts, it’s basically a cheap imitation with the ever-popular iphone skin.
According to Steve jobs, these "revolutionary" new technologies that android users had since 2007 will be available on IOS5, and it would not surprise me to see some more android features from 2008 on IOS6.But the truly sad part is that due to apples marketing, in a few months, apple lovers will really think that apple invented those features and call android the copycats…yet again.

A. For a handset with such a broad range of standout features and specs, the Galaxy S II is remarkably easy to summarize. It's the best Android smartphone yet, but more importantly, it might well be the best smartphone, period. Of course, a 4.3-inch screen size won't suit everyone, no matter how stupendously thin the device that carries it may be, and we also can't say for sure that the Galaxy S II would justify a long-term iOS user foresaking his investment into one ecosystem and making the leap to another. Nonetheless, if you're asking us what smartphone to buy today, unconstrained by such externalities, the Galaxy S II would be the clear choice. Sometimes it's just as simple as that.

Thinking of buying a new radio. What does Garmin App Ready mean? In detail please.?

Q.

A. download to the radio and it will allow you to navigate using Garmin on the radio and getting the internet from your phone

Garmin® Navigator turns your Android phone iPhone into a personal GPS, with features from the nüvi® personal navigators from Garmin, the IFA 2012 “App of the year” winner and leading US provider of personal navigation devices.

Apple’s mapping failure couldn’t have come at a better time for Garmin. With public transport options ready to go, Garmin have updated their Navigon app for iOS 6, complete with support for the iPhone 5’s taller 4 inch display. Garmin StreetPilot Onboard will also follow shortly with an iOS 6 update in the near future, complete with their alternative to Street View.

The public transport options include support for trains, trams, buses and water taxis, as well as Garmin’s new ‘Last Mile’ feature, demonstrated at the IFA: consumer electronics trade show in Berlin earlier this month.

According to the Official Garmin Blog: “Users will be guided to a transit stop by foot and be able to look up detailed information on what line to take and where to get off. The new Last Mile function automatically saves the location of the user’s car when continuing by foot, making it easy to find it on the way back.”

Apple’s own mapping app provides links to third-party navigation and mapping apps to provide the missing public transport features. Garmin’s updated apps join the list of supported services, so you can jump from app to app as painlessly as currently possible. It’s not the ideal situation, but it’s currently the best option available until Apple’s native mapping experience is up to scratch.

It’s surprising that Apple didn’t choose to licence these features from the likes of Garmin in order to make their native mapping experience more feature complete, instead of delivering a half-baked app like they have this week. It’s possible that they may have tried and failed to partner with third-party mapping companies, although no rumours of such talks have ever leaked. Surely, Apple has some plans in the works other than to leave users wanting until Apple themselves catch up.

Based on the current negative attention iOS maps is attracting, Apple may be forced to strike a deal with a third-party to quickly bring the native experience up to parity with the competition. Google have already stated that they want to bring Google Maps to every possible platform, so it’s only a matter of time before we see an official Google Maps app in the iOS App Store. There have been rumours that Google already have an app awaiting approval from Apple, but this has not been officially confirmed.

Until Google or Apple bring a more complete mapping experience to the iOS ecosystem, it looks as though Garmin might be the best port of call for the time being.

(I have the same deal, iTouch for Apple account cause I got lots of iTunes stuff, and Galaxy S2 cause I like Android).

im going to thailand and im wondering how much a cheap iphone 4 would cost?
Q. im not looking to spend more than 100 aud

A. at the top level of jungceylon in patong phuket they are 26000 thai baht.
i was thinking maybe they would be cheaper in thailand but i found most apple products were generally about the same price as they are here in australia.
however if your interested in other brands you can get some great deals.
i bought a samsung galaxy mini running android for 5700 thai baht unlocked (about 170aud) and im not sure about now but 1 month ago this wasn't yet released in australia. its the best phone ive ever had. i also bought this laptop acer aspire for 20000 baht which is about 1/4 of what the equivelant would cost here in australia.
its good if you shop around but dont expect $100 iphone4's to be falling from the sky.
as somebody else mentioned, be weary of fakes. Some of those fakes look pretty original.

(I have the same deal, iTouch for Apple account cause I got lots of iTunes stuff, and Galaxy S2 cause I like Android).

im going to thailand and im wondering how much a cheap iphone 4 would cost?
Q. im not looking to spend more than 100 aud

A. at the top level of jungceylon in patong phuket they are 26000 thai baht.
i was thinking maybe they would be cheaper in thailand but i found most apple products were generally about the same price as they are here in australia.
however if your interested in other brands you can get some great deals.
i bought a samsung galaxy mini running android for 5700 thai baht unlocked (about 170aud) and im not sure about now but 1 month ago this wasn't yet released in australia. its the best phone ive ever had. i also bought this laptop acer aspire for 20000 baht which is about 1/4 of what the equivelant would cost here in australia.
its good if you shop around but dont expect $100 iphone4's to be falling from the sky.
as somebody else mentioned, be weary of fakes. Some of those fakes look pretty original.
