IPhone droid or android?

Q. So which is the best one so far if i where to buy a phone now?

and is windows a contender?

A. get a droid phone, and with a app called "double twist" you can sync all your itunes music to your android,
http://www.tested.com/news/the-best-android-phone-for-your-network-july-2011/2660/

I prefer android over apple for the reason that its open-source, that means that the majority of the apps are free, and you get more revolutionary and cutting edge apps, and do things are even only barely available on a jail broken iphone
The android market already has 250000 apps- closing in on apple 500000; some say it will surpass it before the year is over. Also any popular iphone game or game adaptation can be found in the android market for free.
Another great thing about android as that if you dont like something (keyboard, homescreen, etc.) it can easily be swapped without jail-breaking, unlike the iphones one-size-fits-all approach.

Despite the false rumors, The iphone is also just as, if not more vulnerable to viruses as android

Other features only on android
Turn-by-turn voice GPS
Better and larger screen

Apple lovers that say that the iphone is made of better quality material? They dont realize that Samsung, an android phone maker, supplys the screen, processor and memory for apple devices, so android has the advantage here.
The iphone is pretty, but not durable, drop it once- it breaks, all that glass around it? That was honestly a mistake. Android manufactures clearly saw that, and decided to do with something a little more durable.

And the iphones retina display is a huge scam. By definition a retina display is one where the human eye cannot distinguish individual pixels. But this is determined by several factors; most important being the distance between the screen and your eyes. The iphones retina distance is 12in, move any closer than that- say 7in and its no longer a retina screen because your eyes can now see the pixels, by that same token, if I move my android phone back, to say 16-17in, amazingly, it becomes a retina screen as well! (feel free to google this)

Also apple never invents anything, there never the first. All they do is steal old technology, give it a fresh coat of paint and mass advertise it as magical and innovating, thus fooling the mass of the population into believing that apple offers cutting edge technology, that in fact has been around for quite a few years.
So instead of innovating, apple actually hinders technology- after 4 years they still have low-power single core phones, while android, an example of technology in overdrive, has rumored that, after their second year, the release of quad core phones that will surpass even some desktop computers in shear processing power. (now any 2011 android is smoother and faster than the iphone)

Apple should now feel pretty worried; android has passed it in market share
http://www.businessinsider.com/android-iphone-market-share-2011-4

Then apple panics and sues
http://www.dailytech.com/Google+ExCEO+Apple+Doesnt+Innovate+They+Sue/article22190.htm
The funny thing is that apple cant sue for being the first touchscreen or tablet, because they werent,(Nokia fist touch screen, archos first tablet) so instead they sue for much more relevant things like, the rounded icon corners and having a flat screen or the square shape of the phone..

To top it all, if youve seen apples 2011 presentation, they blatantly copied over five "new" features that were previously on android.
http://androidandme.com/2011/06/news/five-features-in-ios-5-that-show-how-apple-is-now-playing-catch-up-to-google/
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/06/06/apple-introduces-ios5-with-notifications-ota-updates-and-tabbed-browsing-android-users-giggle-at-their-late-arrival/
1. Notification bar
2. Twitter integration
3. No need to connect to PC to sync
4. Launch apps from lock screen
5. Tabbed browsing

And not only are they copies, but apple didnt even bother to improve, or change some of them in any way- some even have LESS features than their android counter parts, its basically a cheap imitation with the ever-popular iphone skin.
According to Steve jobs, these "revolutionary" new technologies that android users had since 2007 will be available on IOS5, and it would not surprise me to see some more android features from 2008 on IOS6.But the truly sad part is that due to apples marketing, in a few months, apple lovers will really think that apple invented those features and call android the copycatsyet again.

android vs apples iphone?

Q. I'm on sprint, my phones finally crapping out. The touch screen keyboard inserts random letters/symbols into my texts, it freezes, the navigation buttons aren't working. It's just become a huge POS. Right now I can get a $75 discount if I extend the contract, if I wait until december I can save $150.
My dad has also offered to put me on his plan and I can just pay him the difference on the bill. He's a huge iphone fan, my boyfriend has an android. If I switch to the iphone I will be paying less initially but from what I understand att doesn't have an unlimited data plan. I can buy a new iphone for like $2-300 and the droids (w/ my current $75 off) start at $320 and go up to ~$500.

I need something thats screen will last, I've had my current phone for a year and a half and its suddenly turned to garbage. I text a lot and use a ton of data but no minutes. This last month my boyfriend and I have used 75/1500 minutes. Music, camera, video, all of that is also a must but I don't think there are any droid or iphones that don't have this.

Must have android thing?
Q. So I got the HTC Desire HD yesterday, and I would like to know some apps or features that I must get. I just got Swype and I don't know what else to get. Any help?

A. The best way to view my list of the top Android apps is in the screenshot gallery. However, you can also view my top 25 in the list below.
The screenshots

The list

1. Google Voice

Google Voice is a service that is so useful I consider it one of the top benefits of Android itself, especially since Apple rejected the Google Voice app for the iPhone. It gives you a phone number that can ring to multiple places or devices and it allows you to access all of your voicemail and text messages over the Web. The Android app integrates even deeper. It can make outgoing calls look like theyre coming from your Google Voice number so that you can keep your real mobile number private.

2. Advanced Task Killer

One of the realities of having a multitasking mobile OS in Android is that you have to manage your apps so that they dont hurt performance or battery life. Advanced Task Killer (or ATK) is my favorite. It even comes with a widget that you can tap once to kill all open apps.

3. Dropbox

Dropbox is a great cloud service that automatically syncs a folder of files between multiple computers (Windows, Mac, or Linux). This app extends Dropbox to Android and interacts with other apps (such as Documents To Go) to open the files.

4. Evernote

Once you get used to typing on a virtual keyboard (and it honestly took me over a year to do it), then these devices are great for note-taking, and Evernote is a great note-taking app. It is similar to Dropbox in that it saves data locally but syncs it across all your machines and devices.

5. DroidAnalytics

For some reason Google doesnt have an official app (for either Android or iPhone) for Google Analytics. The best one Ive found on Android is DroidAnalytics. Another good one is mAnalytics.

6. Documents To Go

The free version of Documents To Go offers a great little reader for Word and Excel files. You can upgrade to the full version (for $15) if you want to edit files and add PowerPoint files to the mix. If you do want editing capability, Id also recommend taking a look at QuickOffice.

7. Amazon Kindle

I never warmed up to the Amazon Kindle e-reader, but Im a big fan of the Kindle mobile app. Since it was released Ive read a lot more books simply because my smartphone is always with me and I can pull it and read a few pages anytime Ive got a couple minutes free.

8. Places Directory

This is an awesome app for finding shops and services near your current location. From restaurants to movie theaters to medical facilities to taxis, this app is very accurate and takes advantage of the business information from Google Local. This app is better than the info you get from a GPS unit (or app) and better than any of the similar apps available on the iPhone.

9. Tripit

I dig Tripit. It is by far the best app Ive found for keeping track of all my travel itineraries. It runs on some great backend systems. You simply forward your confirmation emails for your flights, hotels, rental cars, and more to Tripit and it automatically organizes them into trips with all your details and confirmation numbers.

10. Seesmic

Twitter is an amazing instant-intelligence engine and it was made for mobile browsing. Although theres an official Twitter app for Android now, Seesmic is still the best Android Twitter client.

11. FCC Speedtest

Im obsessed with running speed tests to check my bandwidth in various places, both to see 3G fluctuations and to check the quality of Wi-Fi. There are a number of really good speedtest apps, but my new favorite is the FCC Test app.

12. Astro File Manager

Another one of the great things about Android (if youre a geek or a tinkerer) is that you have lower-level access to the system itself. Astro is an app that lets you navigate the Android file system.

13. Got To Do

There are plenty of to-do apps to choose from on Android but I prefer Got To Do because of the solid interface and the fact that it can sync with the online service Toodledo.

14. Gist

Many of us have contact lists scattered across various computers, devices, and online services. Gist is a Web service that can bring them together and even pull in stuff from the Web to help you stay up to date with your most important contacts. Theres an Android app as well as an iPhone app.

15. TED Mobile

TED is a fascinating event that features a meeting of the minds of some of societys most influential thinkers. Youll definitely disagree with some of them, because theres a large diversity of opinions, but many talks are worth listening to. What I love is that theyve taken the videos from their conference and made them freely available on the Web. This app provides a great way to access the videos. I hope more conferences follow TEDs lead on this.

Q. I own an LG optimus and have heard iPhone is joining sprint so was wondering if making the switch is a good idea?

A. get a droid phone, and with a app called "double twist" you can sync all your itunes music to your android,
http://www.tested.com/news/the-best-android-phone-for-your-network-july-2011/2660/

Despite the false rumors, The iphone is also just as, if not more vulnerable to viruses as android
http://www.pcworld.com/article/183763/experts_not_surprised_by_iphone_malicious_app_report.html

Other features only on android
Turn-by-turn voice GPS
Better and larger screen
No need to connect to computer to sync
Here is a big one, add a sd card
Live wallpaper
widgets
4g
More customizable
More powerful hardware
Flash support, watch ALL the online videos

What Verizon smart phone should I get?

Q. One of my friends has a Motorola Droid, and he says he only uses a computer to videochat and for schoolwork. I am looking to get a phone and do the same. I am looking into Android phones as well as Blackberry. Which phone will allow me to do everything I need to do as far as text, call, surf the web, facebook, facebook chat, aim, and e-mail? I also need a good keyboard and fast browser.

A. The Droids keyboard is actually pretty horrible- I fixed that issue by downloading Swype. Plus now 2.1 has speech-to-text so thats pretty sweet too. As far as a webcam, I'm sure there's an app to do it- I've seen one for UStream.. And the Droid definitely does all of the other things you mentioned..

Is there a good keyboard app for androids phones?

Q. I have a droid 2 and I was wondering if there was any good FREE keyboard apps.

A. I tried them all and so far Slider keyboard is my fave

Can you recommend an Android phone with a keyboard?
Q. I currently have a Motorola Dext (EU version of Motorola Cliq) which I dearly love. But it is starting to show it's age & Motorola refuse to upgrade these past Android 1.5. I know these can be cracked & updated but I couldn't make it work & it's really not worth paying someone to crack such an old phone.

What I Love: Android, large screen, slide out keyboard.
What I hate: Crap battery life, No updates & therefore poor app compatibility

What I would really like to replace it with is more up to date version of the same thing, i.e. another slide out keyboard design, but there are so few on the market. Can people recommend some phones for me to look at.

A. The Samsung Galaxy Smart has a slideout qwerty, as does the HTC Shift something or other... these are both really reliable and advanced smartphones.
The thing with updates is that no phone is going to CONTINUE getting updates, because at some point any phone will be outdated. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is IT right now, so of course it's getting updates... but in a year, that phone will be really old, and might not be getting new Android updates anymore. So just choose a phone you're happy with, and don't worry too much about the updating feature.
One thing, though... I understand why a lot of people want physical qwerty keyboards, but I'd have to say I've converted from that, thanks to the text input method called Swype. Read about it here: http://howdoyouandroid.com/2012/11/how-do-you-use-swype-keyboard.html It's SO much easier than any of those lame virtual keyboards, and actually is pretty close to as fast as typing on a computer keyboard, even if you're up there around 120 wpm.
Last point, about batteries... tbh, smartphones have pretty lame battery life right now. But I've totally overcome that problem, by following this method: http://howdoyouandroid.com/2012/11/how-do-you-deal-with-battery-that.html
Feel free to comment there, if you have any more Android questions!

can I use my bluetooth keyboard with an android phone?

Q. I have as stowaway bluetooth keyboard, was wondering if I can use this with my MyTouch 3g which is an android phone, I have been able to get the keyboard discovered and paired, but I can't get them to connect, does anyone know how to do this, I can't seem to find any articles on how to do this.

A. Since you have already paired your keyboard and phone, download the app KeyPro and go to My Mobile Gear at http://www.mymobilegear.com. Go to Android Bluetooth Keyboard forum and maybe you'll get a fix there.

How do I increase the memory of my android phone without adding a memory card?
Q. when I download an app, the task bar keeps telling me that I'm running low on memory, so what I usually do is uninstall some updates to apps I don't want or need. can i do something else to fix this problem? My android is a my touch keyboard phone.

A. Obviously, you don't need to use any memory card to boost your phone's INTERNAL memory. It's fixed and can't be upgraded like a normal external storage.

If you are not running a rooted phone, then follow these steps:
1. Install history eraser and run it regularly (just like we run ccleaner for our PC)
2. Keep moving all apps from phone's internal storage to SD storage. (Only certain apps can be moved)

If you are running a rooted android, then follow these steps:
1. Install Link2SD or Titanium backup and remove all those unnecessary stock apps eating up your internal space. (CAUTION - YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY)
2. Keep running History Eraser as usual :-)

I have researched this information using the webpage mentioned below:

What is the best blackberry phone that is reasonably priced?

Q. What is the best blackberry phone that isn't too expensive? with big screen, big keyboard, and good camera on it too. and also are there free apps for blackberry phones? are they like android phones?

A. The BlackBerry Q5 would be what you're looking for. I have a Z10 and always been a BlackBerry user. With the BlackBerry Z10 (Q10) you get what's called BlackBerry Balance which allows you to do business and play without having them interfere with eachother. If your phone was to ever be stolen or lost there's an app called BlackBerry Protect which allows you to track your phone and keep it secure and if hacked the phone would do a full security wipe without your permission, just be sure you have all apps backed up in BlackBerry Link(security is the top priority. Even Obama has a BlackBerry). The UI is smooth to the touch (BlackBerry Flow) and allows for easy software navigation. It's OS system uses a QNX Neutrino microkernel OS that enables the use of Flash and HTML5 capabilities and is prone to crashes (http://m.crackberry.com/history-qnx-and-it’s-implementation-blackberry-10), also known to be embedded in systems around us such as social networks, cars, hospitals and space shuttles to name a few( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGW76JB90Ro)which uses the C/C++ computing programing language (QNX is used in systems where the cost of failure is very high"- QNX CEO Dan Dodge) and is also an OS compiler running Android 2.3 Gingerbread (Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on update) Dalvik APIS, Adobe Air/Flash, and Java with QNX C/C++ native. It allows the option of Internet thetering so you could use it as a modem. The features of the hardware are limited. When you look at it you will realize there's no home button. This phone allows for you to only use touch with multiple swiping gestures that takes time to get used to. This is the main feature that makes this standout among other phones such as the iPhone. Typing is much easier where with it you don't even have to use type. All you need to do is start with the first letter and the phone will do the rest on it's own (predictive text), just flick up the word of your choice. The camera has a timeshift feature that allows for you to choose the perfect shot and has a cool story maker app that allows you to make PowerPoint like videos combining videos and photos alike with background music added. Internet (4G LTE) is much faster than other phones. If you're not familiar with BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) well here's your chance. This is the main reason why teens buy or have BlackBerry's. This allows you to exchange your pin number to friends (those with BBM) and communicate with them but also has video chat (similar to FaceTime on iPhone but for BlackBerry) and screen sharing and BBM is also security encrypted. Unlike the iPhone the BlackBerry is also NFC compatible. The only thing this phones lacks is apps which it started with 70,000 and now has 120,000+ apps with more being added but allows for you to sideload Android apps. The phone can also be used as a gaming console. There are so many things this phone has that many others don't and is considered the best phone in the market. Don't get tricked into buying something that you might not like and end up being stuck with your choice. Do the research on the specs of each phone.

Explaining the Difference:

The difference between iPhone and BlackBerry

To operate an iPhone you have a home button to push. You push it to turn it on and to get in and out of apps as with the BlackBerry Z10 you have no home button which means you have to use your fingers. To operate it you swipe up, left and right and to get out of an app you simply swipe up from the bottom.

Fun Fact:

Out of 600,000 phones the DoD uses, 470,000 are BlackBerry's, 41000 are iPhone's and 87,00 are Androids so BlackBerry wins in best security. (watch this ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dY1ecfWT3GQ)

* BBM might have been the reason to buy the older BlackBerry's but that's not the case with the new BlackBerry10 devices. This platform bought new features to the table and a whole different mobile ecosystem with no lags, malware, and better security all with QNX. They already gave people on the other platforms the opportunity to witness the BlackBerry10 OS from their phones (http://global.blackberry.com/static/blackberry-10/glimpse/index . html)and that was one reason why people switched and now they are bringing BBM to other platforms to lure in more people. BlackBerry has the most powerful mobile computing operating system (QNX) so seeing how BBM will be on the iPhone and Android platforms I say it's a way for them to experience the new BlackBerry Messenger app new features (video chat and screen sharing) to regain their market share that they lost to the iPhone and Android phones. On their part its positive but even if they don't gain consumers they're still making money off the other platforms by allowing BBM service on other phones. How to get swype or shape writer on all the keyboards on the iphone?
Q. I got a iphone with the app shape writer, but you can only use it when you open that app. I want to be able to use it on all of my keyboards. Like the messaging app the note app and safari how can i do this?

A. For sure you would have to jailbreak your iPhone, since you would need to actually change the OS. But I don't think anyone has actually made an unofficial app to do what you want, all I could find online were people asking similar questions as you, but no good answers.

P.S. On Android phones, you don't have to hack your phone to switch to one of these different keyboards. Just download the keyboard app, enable it in settings, and you are good to go. Android FTW!
