Alternative android smartphone for samsung galaxy s II (in same price range)?
Q. i want to play hd games and the gpu, chip should be fast. i want mainly better battery life (>1650 mAh) and no overheating glitch as in S II.
It would be very good if other specifications are similar / better than SII .
Budget is $550 / £450 / Rs. 30000
Please suggest list of mobiles. Thank you.

A. The alternatives to s2 would be- xperia s,xperia sl(overclocked cpu- 1.7 ghz and ICS preinstalled, rest is same as xperia s),htc one s,optimus 4x hd(if u expand ur budget by 1000 INR).
U can go for the optimus 4x hd after slightly expanding ur budget(it's the cheapest of all quad cores against the likes of gs3,one x) plus it has sd card slot, removable battery n most important- it accepts regular sim n not micro sim unlike all the above mentioned phones- that is if u r ok with the brand LG.else go with xperia s/sl.

best android phone for hd gaming at a price less than rs 15000?

Q. I want to play games like asphalt 7, gta 3. Also i dont want micromax or karbbon as they are not durable.

A. Have a look at Samsung galaxy S Advance and Galaxy S Duos. Both are good in your price range but they only have 8GB inbuilt storage out of which only 4GB is available for use. As you know GTA 3 itself is 2 GB game. And you install 2 games and you are out of storage.
My advice go for Spice Stellar Pinnacle MI530 or MI535. both have 16GB inbuilt storage and 1GB Ram.

How do I modify my android smart phones home screen interface?

Q. I do not want to root my phone. I want an application or something that allows me to customize the size, location, and appearance of an icon on my home screen.
If it is of any help I have a Droid Razr Max.

A. You load one of these alternate home launchers:

http://kschang.hubpages.com/hub/Droid-Home-Replacement-App-Comparison

is there a way to replace the standard messaging app on android with Go SMS Pro?
Q. I recently downloaded Go SMS Pro on my android phone, and I was wondering if there's a way to replace the messaging app on the home screen (that envelope icon), so it automatically goes to Go SMS Pro. Thanks in advance!
I have already disabled notifications from the default messenger, i just want to know how to replace the standard messaging app with Go SMS Pro.

A. Remove the default one from your home screen by pressing and holding it, a trash can should come up somewhere, drag it to the trash.

To put Go SMS on the home screen open the app drawer and press and hold the Go SMS icon, the drawer should go away and you can drop it on the home screen.

Hope this works, it's been a while since I've used the default home screen. I've been using the Go Launcher home screen replacement, and Go SMS Pro, for a while now.

How to upgrade my Android so apps will work?

Q. I have a Galaxy S Android phone. I got it in January or February (2013) and my sister got the same exact phone in April. But she is able to download most apps ( like vine ) and mine says that its not upgraded to download it. So I was wondering if I can upgrade my phone now, or if I have to buy it with certain upgrades already on it. ( even though its the same phone?)
And if yes, how do I do it. Ive upgraded all my apps, but I dont know where to update anything else

A. just google it and look for a tutorial than explains how to back up and upgrade your stock rom.
type this in google for example:
samsung galaxy s"?" rom upgrade
where i mean "?" the exact module of your phone.
and take care to download a stock (original rom) because some roms are custom and have some problems.
to be more accurate in your sisters android phone go to settings>about phone>> look for the android version.....then google it.
for example:
samsung galaxy s ice cream sandwich rom

What are some good android phones?
Q. I am planning to get an android phone for my birthday, and I was wondering what are some good phones? I know the latest Android operating system is the Jelly Bean 4.2, so what are some phones that run on this system, or could be upgraded to this system?
I'm not interested in the Samsung Galaxy S3, but I was interested in the HTC One X+ and the HTC Windows 8 phone, and the Google Nexus 4.
Also, I was reading an article that was talking about phones that may be released later in 2013, like the Samsung Galaxy S4, Nokia Lumia 9xx, and HTC EVO 4G LTE 2.
So what would be the best choice at the moment? Buying a phone right now, or waiting? And which phone should I buy?

A. It's always better to wait but if you still want to buy a phone then Nokia Lumia 920 is best & HTC One X comes after it. Galaxy S3 is also good but you have already mentioned that you don't want it. And ofcourse Nexus 4 is also a great device. You can choose from these. Only wait for Galaxy S4 otherwise buy any of these phones.

Should I get a new verizon android phone now or wait?

Q. I'm already due for my upgrade and I currently have an lg dare. I will stay with Verizon. Currently the top android phones in verizon lineup are Motorola Droid 2 and X, htc droid incredible, Samsung Fascinate. Should I wait or get one of these now? Heard there is an amazing htc phone called htc merge with 10 megapixel camera and a droid pro.

A. Verizon is getting Iphone in january BUT compared to an android phone is suck.

The only thing you'll be getting with an Iphone is the novelty to say... "I HAVE AN IPHONE!!"

My android can give my laptop internet access anywhere.

Plus apple is expanding because their sales are expected to drop because of Android being such a strong competitor.

Android is an affordable smart phone that almost every carrier offers therefore you'll have more connectivity with people. You can also pick up an android phone with not only touch screen but a slide out keyboard making it easier to text in class, or while driving (not that I condone it.)

Plus if something happens to it you aren't doomed to make an appointment with specialist only for them to tell you that you have to buy a new iphone.

How Do I Update My Android Droid Incredible 2 Cellphone To The Next Update?

Q. I have Droid Incredible 2 in brand new condition and i know that the phone is about 2 years old i think. What i have as far as software information is : Android Version 2.3.4. Is there a higher version for this phone. I go to setting and system update but when its checking it just goes away. No you are up to date or showing the next update. Is there one or not...and is there something that i did wrong? Thanks

A. Nope. Verizon and HTC literally screwed up on updating the phone to Android 4.0.4. They promised to update it last August of 2012. Well, you can see how that went since you're obviously still on Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. The only way to update at this point is to root your phone (which is going to be hard since you're obviously up to date as well). Hope this helped.

Is my rooted android the reason my sytem update keeps failing?
Q. My husband rooted my phone. I don't know what it does. I don't even use it and now I keep trying to do a system update and it fails. I can't call Verizon because I have a rooted phone. Help!

A. Restore to the stock Android firmware.

By the way, rooting is a process allowing users of mobile phones, tablet PCs, and other devices running the Android operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's subsystem. Rooting is often performed with the goal of overcoming limitations that carriers and hardware manufacturers put on some devices, resulting in the ability to alter or replace system applications and settings, run specialized apps that require administrator-level permissions, or perform other operations that are otherwise inaccessible to a normal Android user. Rooting is analogous to jailbreaking devices running the Apple iOS operating system or the Sony PlayStation 3. On Android, rooting can also facilitate the complete removal and replacement of the device's operating system.

As Android was derived from the Linux kernel, rooting an Android device is similar in practice to accessing administrative permissions on Linux or any other Unix-like computer such as FreeBSD or OS X.

Description
Most devices running Android must be rooted in order to install custom versions of the Android system such as CyanogenMod. The stock configuration (unrooted), user-installed applications do not have direct access to the flash memory chip on the device and are not able to replace or modify the operating system itself. Rooting is also necessary for certain applications and widgets that require additional system and hardware rights such as rebooting the phone, certain backup utilities, and other access to other hardware such as status LEDs. Rooting is also needed to disable or remove manufacturer-installed applications such as City ID. Rooting the phone typically also includes installing an application called Superuser that supervises which applications are granted root rights.
In contrast to iOS jailbreaking, rooting is not needed to run applications not distributed by the official Android Market (sometimes referred to as "sideloading"). However some carriers, like AT&T, prevent the installation of applications not on the Android Market in firmware,[2] although the Samsung Infuse 4G from AT&T allows running applications not downloaded from the market.[3]
As of 2012 the Amazon Kindle Fire is locked to the Amazon app store instead of the Android market, and other vendors of Android devices may lock to other sources in the future. Access to alternate apps may require rooting but rooting is not always necessary. As an example, for the Kindle fire it is possible to load the "easy installer" app from the Amazon app store and then use it to "sideload" apps from any source.
One of the potential downsides to rooting is some phone makers consider it to be "modifying" the phone, which may void the warranty. However, if the phone is un-rooted before the user tries to use his or her warranty, there is no easy way for the warranty provider to know that the phone was previously rooted. The term "bricking" is used to describe a device which has had its software modified improperly to the point where it is no longer functioning.[4]

Process
The process of rooting varies widely by device. It usually includes exploiting a security weakness in the firmware shipped from the factory. For example, shortly after the T-Mobile G1 was released it was quickly discovered that anything typed using the keyboard was being interpreted as a command in a privileged (root) shell. Although Google quickly released a patch to fix this, a signed image of the old firmware was leaked giving people the ability to downgrade and use the original exploit to gain root access. Once this exploit is found, a custom recovery image that does not check the digital signature of a firmware update package can be flashed. In turn, using the custom recovery, a modified firmware update can be installed that typically includes the utilities (for example the Superuser app) needed to run apps as root.
The Google-branded Android devices, the Nexus One, Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus, can have their boot-loaders unlocked by simply running the command "fastboot oem unlock" from a computer connected to the device while it is in boot-loader mode.[5] After accepting a warning the boot-loader will be unlocked so that a new system image can be written directly to flash without the need for an exploit.
Recently, Motorola, LG Electronics and HTC Corporation have added security features to their devices at the hardware level in an attempt to prevent retail Android devices from being rooted. For instance, the Motorola Droid X has a security boot-loader that will put the phone in "recovery mode" if unsigned firmware is loaded onto the device.

A. You should format your phone. Or you should try to recover you Gmail password and then unlock your phone as it is said in the above answer.

What are some fun apps and games for android?
Q. What are some fun FREE games and apps for an android phone? Also if you could, explain what they are.

A. There are lots of free games out there. Depending on what type you like to play...arcade, puzzle, racing. Being little more specific in your questions will help too. Try Angry Birds, you grab a bird, fling it across screen, and hope to land on the bad guys (pigs). Bubble Blast 2 is a puzzle game in which you burst bubbles to trigger a chain reaction in order to eliminate them. My kids like Raging Thunder, free and paid version. You can tilt you phone to steer...check out https://market.android.com/ you can view free and paid apps there.

Should I get an iPhone 4 or Samsung Infuse 4G?

Q. I know lots of people with iPhones, plus I have an iPod Touch which is kind of like an iPhone so Im very familiar with them, but ive never used an Infuse 4G or any Android phone. Is it any better? Is it worth buying? What are the pros and cons of it compared to an iPhone?

A. get the samsung, and with a app called "double twist" you can sync all your itunes music to your android,

I prefer android over apple for the reason that its open-source, that means that the majority of the apps are free, and you get more revolutionary and cutting edge apps, and do things are even only barely available on a jail broken iphone
The android market already has 250000 apps- closing in on apple 500000; some say it will surpass it before the year is over. Also any popular iphone game or game adaptation can be found in the android market for free.
Another great thing about android as that if you dont like something (keyboard, homescreen, etc.) it can easily be swapped without jail-breaking, unlike the iphones one-size-fits-all approach.

Despite the false, desperate rumors, The iphone is also just as, if not more vulnerable to viruses as android

Apple lovers that say that the iphone is made of better quality material? They don’t realize that Samsung, an android phone maker, supply’s the screen, processor and memory for apple devices, so android has the advantage here.
The iphone is pretty, but not durable, drop it once- it breaks, all that glass around it? That was honestly a mistake. Android manufactures clearly saw that, and decided to do with something a little more durable.

And the iphones “retina display” is a huge scam. By definition a ‘retina display’ is one where the human eye cannot distinguish individual pixels. But this is determined by several factors; most important being the distance between the screen and your eyes. The iphones retina distance is 12in, move any closer than that- say 7in and it’s no longer a “retina screen” because your eyes can now see the pixels, by that same token, if I move my android phone back, to say 16-17in, amazingly, it becomes a retina screen as well! (feel free to google this)

Also apple never invents anything, there never “the first”. All they do is steal old technology, give it a fresh coat of paint and mass advertise it as “magical” and “innovating”, thus fooling the mass of the population into believing that apple offers cutting edge technology, that in fact has been around for quite a few years.
So instead of innovating, apple actually hinders technology- after 4 years they still have low-power single core phones, while android, an example of technology in overdrive, has rumored that, after their second year, the release of quad core phones that will surpass even some desktop computers in shear processing power. (now any 2011 android is smoother and faster than the iphone)

Apple should now feel pretty worried; android has passed it in market share
http://www.businessinsider.com/android-iphone-market-share-2011-4

Then apple panics and sues
http://www.dailytech.com/Google+ExCEO+Apple+Doesnt+Innovate+They+Sue/article22190.htm
The funny thing is that apple can’t sue for being the first touchscreen or tablet, because they weren’t,(Nokia fist touch screen, “archos” first tablet) so instead they sue for much more relevant things like, “the rounded icon corners” and “having a flat screen” or “the square shape of the phone”……..

To top it all, if you’ve seen apples 2011 presentation, they blatantly copied over five "new" features that were previously on android.
http://androidandme.com/2011/06/news/five-features-in-ios-5-that-show-how-apple-is-now-playing-catch-up-to-google/
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/06/06/apple-introduces-ios5-with-notifications-ota-updates-and-tabbed-browsing-android-users-giggle-at-their-late-arrival/
1. Notification bar
2. Twitter integration
3. No need to connect to PC to sync
4. Launch apps from lock screen
5. Tabbed browsing

And not only are they copies, but apple didn’t even bother to improve, or change some of them in any way- some even have LESS features than their android counter parts, it’s basically a cheap imitation with the ever-popular iphone skin.
According to Steve jobs, these "revolutionary" new technologies that android users had since 2007 will be available on IOS5, and it would not surprise me to see some more android features from 2008 on IOS6.But the truly sad part is that due to apples marketing, in a few months, apple lovers will really think that apple invented those features and call android the copycats…yet again.

Though I suppose Google should’ve seen it coming….

I'm buying my first smartphone and I've narrowed down my choices to the iphone 4 or the Motorola Atrix?
Q. The decision I'm trying to make is between an Android phone versus an Apple phone. Can someone breakdown some of the major differences between them for me? Even searching the internet for comparisons came back uninformative and too biased.

What is the best android phone from Verizon?

Q. I am about to upgrade but do not know which android phone is best. I have an iPhone 4 now but much prefer my old droid phone.

A. Spectrum for sure. In the previous years I have owned the droid incredible and after awhile the phone just starts to fall apart. The applications will not open and the phone will be a complete and total mess. The Spectrum is one of the newer phones with many new cool technology features. Good Luck !!

Is there an android phone out there that can swap sim cards with an iphone 4?
Q. I have an iPhone 4 and I was going to buy an android phone, but as a developer I want to be able to use both phones. Is there an android phone that runs off the micro sim?

A. most phones don't take microsims

that being said, you can buy a microsim to sim adaptor
this will allow you to use the microsim in a non-microsim phone.

What is the usual file size of Android games?

Q. I'm planning to buy an Android phone. It has a small internal memory, so I'm trying to find out how many games I can install. I need to know the usual size of an Android game (the game not the installer). Also, how large are HD games like the ones from Gameloft?

A. 3D "HD" games are often 50MB installers, but take up up to 70MB once fully installed. Not many games take this much, Angry Birds Space is 28MB, Facebook is 12MB, but out of 125 apps on my phone, 100 of them are under 10MB. You can also find substitutes for some apps, like FBM is a Facebook replacement that uses the mobile web version, and it is a 600KB download.

Is there a way to make a game on an android phone?

A. well you can download the android sdk, it has a set of tools that you can use to make a game.
also it is not an app.

How do I get an Android phone without a contract, to use like an Itouch?

Q. I had an I touch for about 5 years until it broke. I was never a huge fan of it mainly because of apple, iTunes, etc. I am looking into the Archos mini tablets but it seems like an offline phone will fit me better. However I cannot pay nor want to get a data plan. I am looking for an Android phone that will work offline, but I don't know where to get one or if it will work without service.

A. buy any used android phone on ebay or craigslist. when people sell their android phone, the contract will be over so you can use it just like an itouch (an android phone with no service) ALL android phones should work with service or not... good luck!

Which is better an Android Phone or IPhone 5?
Q. I have never used an Iphone but have used a few Android Phones.
I'm planning to get a new smartphone. So what to do? Stay with android or buy ios device? Please mention pros and cons of these two and suggest for a best Mobile OS in your opinion. Thank you.

A. Stick to Android.
Android pros: open source you can root and install a custom ROM if you don't like the UI the phone came with, customization, personazation, widgets, more free apps at Google play store, freedom, less restrictions, better battery life(varys on the phone) expandable storage, microsd card support, removable battery(applies to the samsung galaxys not sure on othwrs)
Cons: fragmentation but its improving, if you don't own a pure Google android phone you could end up waiting for months or weeks to get the latest android update from your
Manufactuer.

Iphone 5 pros: taller, more portable, simple os, you'll get the latest iOS update faster
Cons: no expandable storage, no removable battery, resrricted, more paid apps, lack of innovation

Winner? Android. It is the best i am even typing this answer on mt android phone. get more freedom and choice

Oh yeah there are launcher at the play store like iPhone 5 or windows etc etc enjoy

Update for Galaxy Note?

Q. Hi People, I posted this yesterday and everyone seems clueless about it.

Does anybody know when there will finally be ICE CREAM SANDWICH for galaxy note?

I can't stand Gingerbread...the most simple of actions either make the phone lag/ crash and the UI is even worse! It was meant to be a so CALLED "Upgrade" from the S2 which has ICE CREAM SANDWICH and runs games/ apps flawlessly with no lag and can easily manage apps, doesn't get hot ect, ect.

Websites keeps saying it will be release Q2 2012? what the hell does that even mean, even google can't define it? I love samsung phones but they are just terrible at promising updates then stalling behind.

Regards

Shane.
Android phones do update like IO phones (apple)

I recently upgraded my Galaxy S2 from 2.3.4 to android 4.0.3 (ice cream sandwich) mid april - If you want to be helpful atleast get your facts right before making blunt answers

A. Android smartphones won't update like iOS.
You're stuck with what you have.

Do i have galaxy nexus or nexus 2?
Q. How do i know if i have galaxy nexus or nexus 2?..if i type nexus 2 in google its the same

A. There never was a "Nexus 2". All of Google's Nexus devices have been named differently. Here are the names of each device.

Google Nexus One - Made by HTC and released around Q1 2010 - Q2 2010 (3 year old phone now). First of the Nexus phones and had extremely high end specs during its release. All aluminum design, 3.7" AMOLED display (or SLCD display depending on the model). Has a circular trackpad that glows when a notification is received.

Google Nexus S - Made by Samsung and released around Q4 2010 - Q1 2011. Introduced the Android 2.3.x Gingerbread OS. Has capacitive buttons and removes trackpad that Nexus One has. 4" SUPER AMOLED display and a plastic design.

Google Galaxy Nexus - Made by Samsung and released around November 2011. Introduced the revamped Android 4.0.x Ice Cream Sandwich OS. First Nexus device to have a dual core processor, 720P HD display and 1GB of RAM. 4.65" SUPER AMOLED HD display and has a removable back similar to the Galaxy S II.

Google Nexus 7 - Made by ASUS and released around Q2 2012 - Q3 2012 (India got it around Q1 2013). First Nexus tablet ever introduced with the Android 4.1.x Jelly Bean OS. Also first Nexus device to have a quad core processor (nVidia Tegra 3).

Google Nexus Q - Made straight from Google's headquarters and originally released around June 2012. First device to be integrated straight with the Google Play Store. First Nexus device to be a total flop (according to CNN.com). First device to be discontinued so early after launch (discontinued around October 2012 with the announcement of the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10).

Google Nexus 4 - Made by LG and released around November 2012. First Nexus phone to have an all glass design and the first phone to be released with the Android 4.2.x Jelly Bean OS. One of the first Nexus devices to have 2GB of RAM.

Google Nexus 10 - Made by Samsung and released around November 2012 (February 2013 for Japan). First Nexus device to have such a powerful display (2500x1600 HD display) and the first device to have an A15 based processor. First tablet to have the Android 4.2.x Jelly Bean OS and 2GB of RAM.

These are all the names of the Nexus devices. Hopefully you can find out which device you have from there.

How is Boost Mobile's Unlimited Android Service?

Q. I send about 8000 texts a month(mostly to verizon but there plans are over my budget), and use about 1000 minutes for phone, and use hardly any data, i want to switch phone plans, and is boost mobile's unlimited android plan okay for me? I hear that unlimited is whatever boost considers unlimited. If boost is not a good option can you recommend any other unlimited everything plans? my budget is no more than 60$ a month.

A. I've been a Boostmobile customer for nearly 6 months now and haven't had problem . I have a Samsung Galaxy Android device and am on the Unlimited talk/text/web/internet data for $55 which is on their shrinkage plan. For every 6 on time payments the bill drops $5 until you reach as low as $35!
I can vouch that it Is Truly Unlimited, no throttling ect.
3g service is excellent and have never had a dropped call.
The Samsung Galaxy is a great device as well.
If you're considering this, make sure you check the 3g service area provided to ensure your location is included. Chances are,you are since Boostmobile uses the Sprint network, and recently have been expanding as well as improved 3g data speed within the next few months.
Bottom line is, after being a T-Mobile customer for approximately 6 years and owned 5 Samsung devices within this period. I was paying 3 times the bill amount for the plan and 2yr contract and didn't even have 3g access.
So giving Boostmobile a try so far has been the best move I've made in cellphone providers!
Also if you're wondering, No, it's Not a 2yr contact. But based on a pay-as-you go, but as mentioned the longer you stay, the less you pay!
And it doesn't cost anything to check it out! Either online or if you have a local Boostmobile retail store.

What is the definition and scope of Android platform for Qualcomm or TI?

Q. I am interested in Android platform business like what Qualcomm, TI and NVIDIA are doing. In short, they provide their hardware and basic software, then customers modify them at will.

But how do they define their own platform products? For example:
- guarantee basic apps as Android phone (calling, music playback etc) work fine on their board.
- No guarantee for other apps, and any customized hardware and software out of their "platform".

Any comments would be appreciated.

A. first... you have to understand that Android (unlike some other pathetic OSs out there) is not based on chip architecture. Android runs off the Dalvik Virtual Machine, or Dalvik VM or DVM for short... if your going into Android... thats lesson #1... get your mind out of closed source technology!

the OS... ROM... firmware on Android hits the DVM... the DVM then runs to the chip... Google did this so that Android can be accommodated to any chip architecture, by any company, by any technology, past present and future..... thus keeping true to the mission of andriod and Google and Open Source Technology... which is to allow EVERYONE from Quallcomm to Joe The Plummer the ability to modify the OS to meet the needs of consumers regardless of what chip is inside the hardware... to spur innovation on all levels of the stack... and to be inclusive.. rather than closed sourced and exclusive and communistic...

in laments terms... i can make a chip in my garage... and android WILL run on it.. all thanks to the DVM.... my worries---i have to program the ROM specific to the phone i use.. not all phones that their volume button in the same place... different camera technology... power button... nav buttons.. etc... you cant take a v8 from a booneville and put it into a civic.. get the drift?

as you state "other apps"... i have no idea what that means... since Android only allows 1 app based format... which are APK file format... if its not APK, then its not android... ergo, wireless 101, it wont run or install on the phone...

as for customized hardware and software... 3rd party devs, like Cyanogen and those at XDA do this on a daily basis... making CyanogenMOD ROM, MIUI, Rubrix, Gingerix, etc etc etc.. this is is so extensive.... ROMs are made for each phone specifically due to the many models of Android... again back to the car v8 example above....... MIUI works on some phones.. not all.. same with Cyanogenmod... Rubrix etc etc .. its device specific...... thats not Androids fault... not the chip faults... not the DVM... its the many many manufacturers that make phones.... but XDA just loves to turn Windows phones into androids.... oh, let us not forget.. I-Droid! LMFAO

Quallcomm, TI, NVIDIA... they battle not for android... not for google...... but for the business of the manufacturers... they have to convince that their chip is better on this "new upcoming phone" :platform" than the other makers... whos faster.... etc......... get the drift?

so to answer hyour question... there is NO definition and scope of Android OS on Qualcomm, TI, Nvidia.... the DVM is the big man in charge.... now take the DVM... the camera... and all other hardware tools and software tools... who can multitask faster??? Qualcomm, TI, Nvidia? THAT--my friend---is where you answer to this question is...

Can any android phone be updated to any android firmware?
Q. I'm thinking about getting a droid phone from cricket. Its on 2.1 and I was wondering could I find a newer firmware online and update it that way.Don't all android phones go threw the same firmware? The reason I'm asking this because, cricket hasn't came out with the update yet and I want it to updated for more fun such as multi touch?

A. The Android software on those phones are almost the same (in terms of running apps or functionality), but you cannot just update an android phone to any firmwire (like flashing a Droid X with HTC firmware), because there are factors, like hardware. Each firmware is designed to work on the phone it is supposed to work in so there are as fewer problems as possible. However, because of this, it can take a long time sometimes to get an official firmware out to the users, from the time Google releases a new Android version.

There are unofficial ways, however. You could root your phone and get modded 'newer' software for your phone. These are usually compiled by other android users. BUT, beware that rooting your phone and installing non-approved firmware could void its warranty and your carrier may end up canceling your service.

What should i do? Buy a new iPod touch and a cheap phone, or an expensive smartphone?
Q. I really don't know what to do. I have been saving for a new iPod touch 32 GB 4th generation, but then my phone broke. I was looking around the web and found android phones. They look cool, can play some apps like iPod, is a phone and can watch films. Now they are fantastic but there expensive. I know apps will look better on the new retina display of the iPod, but the android phones are really good also. I only have 200 euro now and i can have a budget of about 300 euro (Price of iPod).
In the android phone i want:
WIFI
BIG HI RES TOUCH SCREEN
CAN PLAY APPS LIKE iPOD
PRE-PAY
WILL WORK ON IRISH NETWORK (O2, VODAFONE)

Now people are going to say the HTC Wildfire, but that cant play apps like iPod (im talkin about apps like asphalt)

Please give me advice, and an android model phone if possible! Thanks in advance!
If you look i said "In the android phone i want: PRE-PAY (Not bill pay) ... please know what you are saying is actually answering the question before!!

A. buy the ipod and cheap phone because with a smart phone, you have to pay the data plan and that is really expensive especially in the long run. Just think how much you'll be paying a year for data plan. So the ipod touch with a phone is way better. No data plan=success

How long to charge an HTC EVO phone battery?
Q. Two years ago, I purchased a Sprint HTC Evo android phone with a regular battery. Recently I bought an extended battery after becoming fed up with constant charging of the regular battery, who's life lasted about 4 hours.

I want to know, how long must I charge the extended battery before it is completely full?

A. When the battery is new it is important to charge it for 8-12 hours for the first 3-5 cycles regardless if the phone says it is fully charged. This process helps condition your battery and will help extend the overall lie as well as the amount of time you will get to use your phone between charges. Between charges let the battery run down to 25-30% capacity. After the first 3-5 charges you can start just charging it as long as it takes to fully charge..maybe an hours or so.

Good luck!

I only have a few budget what should I buy from the two?

Q. I 'll be needing a new device for college, but I only have few excess budget what should I buy:
cheap android tablet amounting around to PHP7000 - 10000
or a nokia lumia 610 smartphone which is around PHP8000 - 10000??
I dont know what is the major differences of having a windows smartphone and an android tablet aside from having a simcard. please suggest and provide a fair reason.

A. lumia 610
it feels premium and high end in your hand
the screen is a 3.7" amoled screen with Nokia clear black display so that means colors and text look amazing on it and that also means you can easily see in direct sunlight so you won't have to higher the screen brightness
the camera is a 5 megapixle camera which takes amazing photos and videos and it also has the Nokia added features like group shot, panorama shot and burst shot
what group shot allows you to do is to capture the perfect moment so for example if you are taking a photo of 2 people and you blink you will be able to rewind the time till when they were still smiling
the web browser is extremely good and very fast
the phone handles mail in a very good way
you've got a huge number of high quality apps and you also got the Nokia added free exclusive apps like Nokia drive,Nokia maps,Nokia city,Nokia lens,Nokia beta,Nokia music,Nokia creative studio, espn, espn radio,CNN,viber HD. and many more
battery life on the phone is very good and would easily get you through a full day of heavy use on a full charge
the whole os on the phone is amazing and it runs smooth and fast and it's also faster in everyday use than iOS and android
hope I helped :)
tell me if you decided to get it
and if you have any question you can email me at spieleranswers@outlook.com

YouTube videos in HD showed very good on the dolphin HD browser.Battery life is up to 3 days on standby, but I tried using it often for today to drain the battery and it lasted around more than 10 hours, with me playing games and using Wi-Fi.

Disadvantages are here:It only has android 2.3, and most mobile running froyo can be upgraded to 2.3.Its screen is too small & resolution of the screen is pathetic, typing SMS will be much tougher. Also, many android apps will not run in this resolution.Another thing the inbuilt browser doesn't support embedded flash video, but with dolphin HD browser you can see any video. The browser is really smooth and no lag.In any Android phone from Samsung can use the Dolphin Browser to support flash. You can download Dolphin HD browser from Android Market. If you face problem with Bluetooth connectivity, and if you are not able to connect Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 with your laptop as a modem through Bluetooth, and if you feel that there is some problem in Bluetooth, make a note that, Android Bluetooth devices are not discoverable by default. so maybe you need to turn on Bluetooth visibility which turns visibility on for 2 minutes only. menu-->wireless and network --> Bluetooth settings --> visible (tick)If you still not happy with your mobile, Don't do anything just go to your seller and tell him to replace it with a new phone. Don't go 2 service centre. There is a 7day replacement guarantee. Just force your seller to replace it with a new phone.Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 at this price range of Rs.7000 is good. Excellent buy, you won't regret it for all the features of this phone. Very efficient and affordable. Go for this phone if u have low budget.

On verizon, would I have to pay large termination fees to downgrade from my droid to my old phone?

Q. I recently got a new android phone with my 2 year contract. However, the data plan is expensive and I'm going to college next year so I need to save as much money as possible. Is it at all possible to reactivate my old simple keyboard phone but keep my new one without paying hefty termination charges? If not, how much would it cost? I know I obviously would not be able to use the droid's 3G/4G functions anymore, but I was planning on using it as an old replacement for my old ipod. Thanks!

A. Yes, all you do is type in meid from back of phone into your my Verizon account to switch to ur old phone, n you can sell ur Droid make some money,

I want a phone that is great for watching movies(youtube), gets new android updates quick, and an os, that help me and wont get in my way. I am deciding between thunderbolt, bionic, and samsung. Any personal experience with the brands would help too.

What should I look for when trying to find a smartphone/android compatible with T-mobile gsm network?
Q. I want to use it as a prepaid but don't necessarily want the phones the company offers at this time. Wanted to see if I could find a better phone that's unlocked that I can activate on the t-mobile network and use it as a prepaid. Any help would be appreciated.

What android phone should is good to these standards?

Q. an up to date touch screen w/ optional keyboard text.
are there any phones out there like this anymore? are they all 100% touch screen now?
i say android because im with T.Mobile. can android phones be jailbroken like iphones so I can be able to down apps for free?
an android phone I can slip my sim card and and start using right away w/o paying for internet

A. Ok... So... To the first question:

a) About the keyboard in latest phones.... Well that is definitely a tough one! But there are still a few options available. These are some of them that are relatively up to date... ( I interpreted an up to date phone (android) as one that is running on android Ice cream sandwich 4.0.x or higher with a fair hardware power) :

- Samsung Galaxy Chat B5330:
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_chat_b5330-4866.php

- Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere II I415:
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_stratosphere_ii_i415-5124.php

- LG Mach LS860:
http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_mach_ls860-5032.php

- Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE
http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_photon_q_4g_lte-4885.php

second:

b) Yes, android phones can be ROOTED (root = jailbreak for android, to make it simple), BUT you don't need to root your phone in order to be able to download *free* apps ( *cough google search for "alternatives to google play store" cough *).

third:
You won't be able to use data connection in a phone if you are not paying for that service to some carrier.
In order to be able to use any SIM card in your phone ( from different carriers) your phone has to be carrier unlocked, means that you did not buy it subsidized by any carrier via a contract. If your phone is carrier locked, you can still root it to unlock it or sometimes the carriers will let you pay some fee for them to unlock it via IMEI .

Hope this was helpfull! sorry if I didn't explain myself vastly but I'm in a hurry hehe! Good luck finding your phone!

How do I get my android installed on my labtop?
Q. I pulled out an old labtop which is probably 5 years old(im guessing) and tried to hook up my android phone(htc droid eris). When it tried to install the hardware for it to work it couldn't find anything. It is a compaq presario v2140us. Please help me.

A. It depends what OS you are running. You need to get the drivers for mass storage drives, because the phone installs as a mass storage device (like an external hard drive). If you are running XP, they should have been included. Otherwise you can download them.

Q. password which i dont have - i totally forgot this info about this phone - pls help ps. ive tried holding down the home=volume up = power button all at the same time doesnt work - took out battery put back in doesnt work - let it charge out still doesnt let me in

A. You should format your phone. If you cannot format it or you have some important information stored in your phone memory then you should take it to the mobile repairing centre and ask them to fix it.
