I have no clue on what phone to get! my price range is $600 - $650(30000 rs)?

Q. my price range is $600 - $650(30000 rs)
yeah and i want a phone tat is technically advanced. Not considering iphone at all. Any phone other than iphone.

A. I love it when you stupid people yell out IPHONE when the gentleman said "any phone other than iphone"... freakin Podling noobz!

If you have that much to spend... and your in India.. try a Nexus S or ONE... Its a true Google phone... with Android 2.2 OS and called the true Google Experience

Oh.. 2.3 OS Gingerbread was JUST released via OTA... so yeah, your on top of all androids with NExus

which phone should i get?
Q. I am wanting to get a new phone for tmobile and can't decide between htchhd2 and the motorola cliq xt
which phone is better and which has better apps

A. The hd2 is a great phone but its windows mobile while the cliq is android. So the cliq has the better apps by far. You have access to over 30000 Apps while the windows mobile has only a couple hundred. The hd2 is a cool phone though with a giant display but the cliq also has the motoblur for social media integration. So I would get the cliq.

UPDATE they will not be upgrading the windows 6.x versions up to 7 like the other person said. They will be coming out with new ones that have windows 7.

Can you change your phone halfway through a 2 year contract.?
Q. In January 2013 I had an upgrade on my phone, I upgraded to an iPhone 5 (I'm with EE UK provider) I found out the iPhone 5 is really basic to use and cannot customize it at all, I'm very geeky at IT.

I really want to change to an android phone like the Samsung S4 because you can do a lot more on an Andriod then an Apple iPhone. My question is can you change your phone after 6 Months of having it on a 24 Month contract.

A. Yes you can but be assured it will cost you plenty of money to do so.

A. Follow this: Settings > Wireless and Networks > Tethering and portable hotspot

Why does my new Android phone keep saying I have apps open when I'd never opened them?
Q. Alright, I just got my new One X Android phone yesterday. When I go to my 'running apps' page or task manager, it says I have apps open that I've never even touched before.

Does anyone know why it's doing this? Is it a malfunction or is it supposed to do that?

Thanks!

A. The running apps list is more of a service list, like hitting control-shift-esc in Windows. The phone (dialer) itself is considered an app. The market (Play Store) checks for updates in the background, so it's running behind the scenes. Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, etc., all have apps running in the background. Gmail could be syncing your email account, checking for new emails, etc. If you have a desktop widget, that app is running in the background to get the information for the widget.

These are all supposed to be happening. Many apps are set to start automatically when the phone starts, and/or run again once closed for these reasons.

Most phones have "junk" apps that the cell carrier installs that will do the same thing- for example, NFL Mobile for Verizon. You can remove these apps by clicking on them in the installed app list and clicking Uninstall in the upper right. If you have a newer phone with ICS (go to Settings > About Phone and see if the OS version is 4.0.something or higher), you can also click on other apps and choose to uninstall updates and then disable the apps; this will prevent them from running.

Ok i'm getting my first cell phone wondering if a htc droid is a good one?

Q. Ok for christmas i want a cell phone or a fender guitar and if i get a cell phone i was wondering if the htc droid is good. If i do get i want it with Verizon because it covers Montana. I'm really careful and protective of my stuff so i'm not worried about how easily it breaks. If not it wat is a good cell phone. I would prefer a touch screen and i live in montana so i need a provider that covers most of montana.

A. Ok right...well it really depends on what you want to use it for...

Phone specs:

- Networks: CDMA dual band (800/1900 MHz); CDMA2000 1xRTT/1xEV-DO rev.A
- Display: 3.20 inches, 320 x 480 pixels, 262 144 colors, TFT
- Camera: 5 megapixels with Auto focus
- Operating system: Android 1.5
- Input: Touch Screen
- CPU: Qualcomm MSM7600, 528 MHz
- Memory: 288 MB RAM / 512 MB ROM
- Memory card: microSD/microSDHC
- Connectivity: WiFi,GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, 3.5mm HeadPhone Jack

- Weight: 4.23 oz (120 g)
- Other: Sense UI, Full HTML Browser with Flash Lite 3.7.1

It's running Android 1.5, there's a new 2.0 available but it's pretty decent itself. It supports Flash Lite so you can view some flash on the browser itself like youtube videos, etc. without the need of a seperate application. WiFi, so you can connect on a hot-spot or with your own internet connection.
The processor & ram isn't the fastest or biggest but if you're not a big "techy" then I doubt it will make a big difference to you.

Overall, it's a good phone for a normal user who wants to do most "day-to-day" things.

If you're looking for a superior device, then I would advise to buy the HTC HD2! It's just stunning!
Fasssst 1ghz snapdragon processor, HUGE 4'3 inch screen (biggest in the market) & a beautiful UI (the layout & design of the phone) & really nice and thin! Here's a link to it; http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_hd2-review-418.php

I hope you make a good choice :) (I'm buying the HD2 btw)

Which in is best for educational purpose?lumia or android?

Q. i am a college student,my budget is in between Rs-5000 and 9000..suggest me a smart phone between android and lumia thats suits my need and budget..

A. Hi Tridona,

I'd recommend the Nokia Lumia 520, for around 8820Rs.
http://www.flipkart.com/nokia-lumia-520/p/itmdj5f6zyyqy6dh?pid=MOBDJ4ZNC7PTMG68&otracker=from-search&srno=t_4&query=nokia+lumia+520&ref=5e775b37-0cc9-45f9-8242-70abc04c02a5

It has Microsoft Office built in; for Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote built in. There's support for almost any email account (including Yahoo!, Microsoft and Google); with support for multiple inboxes.
It has Facebook, Twitter, Skype and Xbox also built in. There's Nokia Music for completely free and unlimited music mixes, and the world's best maps. The home screen makes it really easy to organise all your favourite people, apps and information.

It has 8GB of storage with expandable memory, a 5MP camera and a super sensitive 4" touchscreen.

Hope this helps!

Should I sell my Smart Phone?
Q. Is it a good idea to sell a Symbian Belle Smartphone worth Rs 15000 (6 months old) for an Android 4.0 Smartphone worth Rs 6500 INR. I wanna know if features really outweigh money? I mean, is it better to have a phone that costs Rs 15000 INR, does all the basic stuff I need or a phone that does everything (basic + what Symbian can’t do) and costs less than Rs 7000 INR.
I’m talking about Nokia 701 and Micromax A89 Ninja. Should I get it selling off my Nokia 701 or keep my 701 cuz of the Price Factor (its higher priced and I’m really conscious about it).

I’ll have to compromise on lot of stuff if I get the A89, like Build Quality (currently dust gets under the display of my Nokia 701 though), Brand Factor (you know how people are conscious about brands these days), Camera Quality (I know Micromax really sucks in this category), etc.

So my main motives behind selling off my Nokia 701 are-
- Its Symbian (lack of Apps)
- Its has smaller display (3.5’’ vs 4’’ on A89)
- Dust gets under the Display (Repaired it twice, but no success)

And my motives behind getting A89 are-
- Its Android
- Larger Screen

And the reasons that are holding me off from getting A89 are-
- Its lower Priced
- I’ve to ignore the camera as if it never existed (very poor quality compared to Nokia 701)
- Brand Status, Micromax vs Nokia
- Customer Support

I’ll get no more than Rs 9000 INR selling off my Nokia 701 so my Budget is Rs 9000 INR (I cannot extend my budget). What should I do? What have you done if you were in place of me? Any Suggestions? Thanks in Advance for your answers.

A. I dont know why you think Symbian lacks apps. There's a lot on ovi store and other third party app sites; and since newer symbian os has backward compatibility, there's millions of apps from the beginning of symbian that you can use.

Unlike Symbian, its easier to create apps for Android and hence every Tom Dick and Harry have an android app. Most of these apps are just useless and is only an "ad-carrier" created for developers to make money from ads shown thru apps. So you need to come up with a list of apps that you probably need and then check the availability of the same with Symbian, iOS, Android and Windows and then decide for yourself which OS you want to go for.

For picking a mobile, your current selection of Micromax is not a good choice. I would have recommended that phone if you are just looking to buy your first smartphone and with a small budget. But after going thru your reasons for selling the current mobile, I'm sure that Ninja A89 would only disappoint you. If your budget is low, then try to get a used Samsung Galaxy, SE Xperia for Android or iPhone, Nokia Lumia, HTC for other operating systems. You dont have to compromise anything just to get to Android OS.

Oh and btw, 701 wasn't a good phone from Nokia. You could have bought the N8 instead which has better features and build quality. The higher hardware specs of 701 isn't reflected onto end user performance for some reason.

A. Hello there! I'm Top Contributor Velocity. I'll try to help you as much as I can. You can e-mail be anytime you like.
____

We'll start with choosing the OS(Operating System) first;
We have 3 top Operating Systems. Android, iOS and Windows Mobile.
Since you say that you do not have such an high budget, we'll eliminate iOS.
And Windows Mobile does not have such a good application market.
So you definitely should buy an Android OS phone.
____

From phones that support Android OS, the top brands are HTC and Samsung.
In the current marketing, Samsung is in the lead for its Galaxy S II. If you have the money, purchase this phone. And if this is over the budget too, Galaxy S is older model but still better than most of the phones in current markettin.

Also, know that Samsung's Galaxy family is a wide family. There are other phones which are still up to date and pretty good, such as Galaxy Ace.
If still not cheap enough, try Galaxy Fit.
Too expensive again? Try Galaxy Gio.
Again expensive? Try Galaxy Mini.

All of these phones are Android.

These are the official sites of these phones. Check them out if you can:

What phone should I upgrade to?

Q. I currently have a Droid (the original one), and I am due for an upgrade. What phone should i choose and why?

A. My personal opinion is that your best options are between 2 Android devices:

1) Droid 3 - This will allow you to maintain what you are used to with your original Droid but with a major increase in speed and overall specs. You will also have the physical keyboard.
2) Samsung Galaxy S2 - This is already practically guaranteed to be the smartphone of the year and Verizon looks to be one of this beautys first US destinations. The SGS2 is going to be the summit of dual core processors and and a fantastic end to 2011, right before 2012 introduces the onset of quad core processor devices, and will be well worth the wait of you can manage.

Hope that helps - Ben

What is better the acer iconia a500 or the ipad 2?
Q. i am looking to buy one of these two but i don't know which one

can you write some good and bad things about each Thanks

A. Hi. I went with the Acer Iconia. It won out over the IPad for the following reasons:
Hardware:
1. 16x9 form factor (screen) instead of 4x3 for the IPad. Most videos are 16x9 now, making video watching more satisfying on the Acer. As well, Gorilla glass screen, and screen resolution on the Acer is higher than the IPad. (1280 vs.1024 for the IPad.)
2. Full-sized USB port. I can plug external hard drives, data sticks, etc. directly into the Acer and tether my smartphone via USB to the Iconia and use the phone as a hotspot to access the internet from anywhere there's a 3G signal.
3. MUCH better cameras both front and back. 5 megapixel back (with flash), 2 in front vs. 0.7 megapixel back and a crappy VGA front camera on the IPad.
4. Twice as much RAM, 1 gig to 512 for the IPad. The processors are about equal, 1 gig dual core.
5. Little touches like a physical screen orientation lock and a nice rocker volume control on the Acer.

Software:
1. The Android 3.x OS - and the forthcoming in Jan. 2012 Android 4.0 which the Acer will be upgradeable to - supports flash. The IPad doesn't, a glaring mistake in my opinion, and there are many flash sites, thus limiting your surfing options dramatically.
2. Android is beautifully integrated into all Google services. So if you use GMail, Google Talk, Maps, etc., it's a very streamlined experience and everything syncs beautifully with your home desktop or laptop.
3. While the Apple apps far outweigh the Android Market apps in number, I feel it's a moot point. The Android Market has an endless supply of amazing apps for the Iconia, thousands and thousands of them freeware. While I can't say for certain that Apple doesn't have apps that perform functions that aren't available in the Android Market, I CAN say that I've found every kind of app I could conceivably think of on the Android side, plus dozens and dozens more that are now indispensable to me.
4. The Acer has a great DLNA app, Clear-fi, to integrate all your home devices, and I've found it works flawlessly and is easy to configure. I can't speak to the IPad equivalent.

Accessories: Both have available docking stations and bluetooth keyboards, and I can't speak to the IPad's, but the Acer has a very nice docking station, with a wireless remote, both to recharge it and to use as a music player, the speakers are very good.
2. I haven't purchased it yet, but Acer's Bluetooth keyboard is made specifically for the Android OS, which effectively turns your Acer A500 into a laptop.

Finally, price. Overall, my perception is that the Acer gives you more bang for the buck. And I think the Iconia is prettier, lol. Which shouldn't be a consideration, but it is a bonus.

IPad strengths:
1. As mentioned, larger app store.
2. Physical dimensions: 20 percent lighter and 40% slimmer. But when you're talking about 660 grams vs. 730 grams, that isn't an issue, for me at least.
3. A more stable OS. Android is the new kid on the block, and occasionally I've had to force quit an application. But it's rare, and it takes a millisecond to reopen the app.
4. Higher screen pixel depth, displaying 16 millon colors to the Acer's 256 thousand. But believe it or not, the difference is negligible and I doubt 1 in a million people would have keen enough eyesight to appreciate the difference, and one of the most-oft heard compliments on the Acer is the quality of its screen output, which I can vouch for.
5. Strength in numbers. They have the lion's share of the market, so you'll have lots more 'company' with so many more IPad users.
6. Integration with Apple apps and products. If you have a Mac desktop or laptop, if you use ITunes as your default music player, etc. But even there, a great Android app called Double Twist integrates ITunes into the Android experience.

I'm a big fan of Apple, have been for decades. They make amazing products and I've owned several Mac desktops over the years. But I can say from personal experience that my Acer A500 is a marvelous machine, does everything I want it to do and more, and I expect Android OS upgrades to take care of any issues that this relatively nascent OS is currently having. Ultimately, though, I'm sure the IPad would have done most of what I wanted, and you'd probably be happy with either; it depends on your computing needs. I also believe I chose the RIGHT Android tablet. Most of the Android tabs have almost identical specs, the same 'guts' so to speak, but the little extra features drew me to the Iconia. Otherwise, I might have gone with the new Samsung Galaxy 10.1 to match my Galaxy S smartphone.

I hope this was of some help to you. Keep in mind, that the next fellow may feel the same about his IPad as I do about my A500, and he wouldn't be 'wrong', he'd just have different reasons for his preference.

What are some fun apps and games for android?

Q. What are some fun FREE games and apps for an android phone? Also if you could, explain what they are.

A. There are lots of free games out there. Depending on what type you like to play...arcade, puzzle, racing. Being little more specific in your questions will help too. Try Angry Birds, you grab a bird, fling it across screen, and hope to land on the bad guys (pigs). Bubble Blast 2 is a puzzle game in which you burst bubbles to trigger a chain reaction in order to eliminate them. My kids like Raging Thunder, free and paid version. You can tilt you phone to steer...check out https://market.android.com/ you can view free and paid apps there.

What do i need to know to keep my android phone viruse free? i starting to download a few things.?
Q. I downloaded Versagram and I downloaded a game from Playstore. I download files and pictures but I haven't download any videos yet. What shouldn't I do to prevent viruses on my phone and what should I know? I want to keep my android phone viruse free. What shouldn't I download or avoid?

A. Get Lookout. It scans everything you download to make sure it's safe. (:

It also will let your phone scream if it gets lost, backs everything up, and sends you an email every week to let you know everything is fine.

Best tablet under $200?
Q. On my list I've had the Nexus 7, Galaxy Tab 2, Visual Land Prestige 10 and Coby MID8065. But every time I decide on one I end up finding reviews on other sites that put me off, or find out it's missing something crucial for my needs.

What I want:
Android 4.0 or higher
1.2 GHz
At least a 5000 mAH for battery
7-10" screen, though closer to 10" is preferred
1 GB RAM
At least 8 GB storage/capacity
Camera (pic & video), speakers, usual ports (HDMI, micro SD, USB, etc)
Bluetooth enabled is a must!
Google Play is a must!
Adobe compatible
Capacitive screen
Wi-fi capable

I'll be using it mostly for long periods of note taking so it needs to have great battery life.

My only way of connecting my husband's tablet (Asus EEE Slider - a bit out of my price range) to get online is through bluetooth. We usually tether the phone to the laptop since the only internet we have is on the phone (read: no wi-fi), so if he ever needs to get online on his tablet for basic browsing is by enabling bluetooth on my phone and sharing the connection. Bit of a pain, but it's cheaper that way.

Google Play capability is needed because I like their apps better. Also, if I so happen to be in an area with wi-fi, Hulu Plus has to be compatible - they took their list down from the site so I don't know which individual tablets are supported anymore.

A larger screen size is preferred for typing, though I like the compact size of the 7".

Please, nothing higher than $200, NO apple products and it has to meet all of the above. TIA!! =)
ETA: Visual Land is definitely off the list since it doesn't support Google.
@Devon, I'm an adult. I have bills to pay and I like to live within my means. So if I'm looking for a $200 and under tablet that means I'm looking for a $200 and under tablet.

A. Hi. I would recommend Galaxy Tab 2 7" from these options.

- Android 4.0 or higher: Yes Upgradable to 4.1 too
1.2 GHz: Dual Core 1Gh Processor

- At least a 5000 mAH for battery
4000mAH but enough for around 11 hours of battery backup

- 7-10" screen, though closer to 10" is preferred
7" would be better option since the budget you mentioned is best for 7" screen only

-At least 8 GB storage/capacity: Yes plus microSD slot

-Camera (pic & video), speakers, usual ports (HDMI, micro SD, USB, etc): Yes all those ports and Camera is there. Rear Facing 3.15MP and front facing VGA camera

-Bluetooth enabled is a must!: Yes
-Google Play is a must: Yes
-Adobe compatible: Yes
-Capacitive screen: Yes
-Wi-fi capable: Yes
-1 GB RAM: Yes

Galaxy Tab 2 7" - Review from an actual user:

Nexus has front facing camera only
While the tablet you have mentioned is pretty unknown and I dont actually recommend something that you cant rely on.

To buy samsung smart/android phone in india I want to buy samsung phone within range 8000-9000/-rupees pls sug?

Q. I want to buy samsung phone within range 8000-9000/-rupees pls suggest some models name.

A. You have posted a question in the US category and use an international currency. I would recommend relocating the question to your geologic area or changing currency.

which is the most reliable smart phone in Indian market?HTC , sony or LG?
Q. I am a dual sim nokia user.but i want a dual sim smart phone.lumia is single sim phone.so please suggest me a long-lasting reliable dual sim smart phone ( android or windows or symbian)within the range of Rs- 6000 to 8000 INR.Please help..i need the phone urgently..
Thank you

A. If you are not obsessed with brands then you can go for "Lenovo A690"
The phone has some really good features and comes at a price of roughly Rs. 7200. HTC will never provide good quality phones at such low cost as its hardware is pretty expensive. The same also goes for Sony. Lenovo is coming up with a new range of smart phone segment and therefore, in order to make an entry it is maintaining its price at the lower segment, You can check its specifications at:
http://www.shopclues.com/lenovo-a690-dual-sim-android-smarphone-en.html?utm_source=markgroup

Please do not go for Samsung because all the models look similar to one another.

Sony Ericsson vs. Motorola (please answer, 10 points)?

Q. I wanna buy a new phone. I have my choices- Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro which will cost me Rs. 8,999, Android enabled 5 MP camera QWERTY keyboard sliding touch 3g, wifi, gps UI- auto rotate, digital compass OR Motorola FIRE which will cost me Rs. 9990, Mode switch user interface Android 2.3, Memory upto 32 GB, 200,000 apps, QWERTY - touch phone. Please tell me which phone. My budget is around 9000. And I am from Mumbai, India.

A. Sony

Plz suggest a good android smartphone around 8000 rs. ?
Q. also give ur review on samsung galaxy pop?? does it supports adobe flash player ??? can i watch live TV in it ???

A. The Samsung Galaxy Pop does support Flash, since it is shipped with Android 2.2 (Froyo) it is automatically Flash enabled. It looks like a fairly decent device, I would recommend you getting it. As for television, most likely, yes. You would most likely have to try and find an Application on the Android market that let's to do that. The device is 9000 RS no? Since the phone seems like the one of the lower end ones, I don't think you can get much lower with an Android powere device. I suggest you get the Samsung Galaxy Pop.

Possible way to use Android phone as modem without cost?

Q. Is there's any way to use android phone as modem without limit, or need to get updated into premium usage, etc?

I know PDA NET is a good free application, but the usage limit too short, I even can't upgrade my antivirus program, or making assignment as I need to review most video in Youtube.

It would be great if there's a way to use it without limit, like previous generation phone such Nokia X3-02 :)

A. Foxfi app its free and works I use it constantly

What is different between trojan virus and scumware virus. and what generally they does?
Q. hi..
plz tell me what is the difference b/w a trojan virus and scumware virus. And also that what they does or what happens to my Android Phone if they are in my mobile...
plzzzzz..... i have NetQin, BitDefender, AVG, Kaspersky & Mcafee Antivirus so I can take risks:)....
thanks!

A. Firstly you should not have more than one anti-virus installed anywhere. Not in your computer not in your phone. Having more than one anti-virus will create loads of false alarms and security loopholes.

Having more than one anti-virus means you are like an old man with chemo therapy treatment and taking medicine for diabetes, you are a walking dictionary for illnesses and you are prone to get sick. You might even have lots of infections that are yet to be detected or cannot be detected.

A Trojan is a type of malware that intrudes your computer as a friendly software. It maybe from a torrent download, or some software from the internet. A Trojan is something that promises to do something, but hides its real intentions of being malicious in nature and harming your computer's security and privacy.

A scumware is a lke an Adware, and adware almost always directs you to the website of its publisher, it can even change your homepage and disable you from changing it back. Adware also cause pop-ups to appear.

An adware can be caused by a Trojan infecting your computer and installing its payload i.e. the adware. Or it can open the backdoor of your computer to allow an adware to easily intrude your computer bypassing the anti-virus.

A trojan is something that can open doors to other malicious software and/or bring them in together as a payload. An adware on the other hand is a malicious program by itself that tends to promote its publisher. An adware can also lead you to any site that the publisher wants.

What is the best phone on the market?
Q. Best android phone. (I don't like I phones)
And what is the best tablet on the market?

A. Best android phone I'd have to say Nexus 4, but if you wait a month, a whole heap more will be coming out (MWC), and my guess is a lot of them will be the 5-inch 1080p phones which seem to be the Android trend for the year.

Tablet, depends on whether Android or Windows 8 or whatever else you had in mind. And on your purpose. 7-inch, 10-inch, bigger etc.

I want to buy an android phone under 12000 INR?

Q. My requirements are external slide qwerty keypad, large screen and android 2.3 if possible.

A. http://hubpages.com/hub/Budget-Smartphone-Buying-Guide

Either the Sony Xperia X8 or the Samsung Galaxy 3 should do pretty well, I think. ZTE Blade is great too, and much cheaper at 8500 INR.

which is the best android qwerty mobile?
Q. I want to buy a new android qwerty phone .budget 10000-12000.it should be with qwerty keypad and android. Whats ur openion about htc cha cha and htc status.what are the other qwerty anroid from htc.my first preferenc is htc.

A. Ok. HTC ChaCha and Status are bad phones. I don't even know what carrier your on, or if you want a GSM phone. Anyways, a G2( HTC Desire Z elsewhere) is an outdated phone, but has a good keyboard. HTC Desire HD, HTc Sensation, HTC Amaze are good phones also, but no keyboard. HTC MyTouch 4G Slide(i don't know the name for non-us carriers) is the most recent keyboard phone htc has had. They sorta quit keyboards.

Can I have wifi without having a phone line?

Q. We are trying to save money so we want to get rid of our phone line. We all have cell phones so theres no need for a house phone. But we do need our internet. Can we have internet without a phone line? If so how?

A. You can use the 3G data connection from your mobile devices as a web connection for a connected laptop or desktop PC if the mobile device supports tethering. But 3G data speeds are very slow throughout the UK and it will end up costing a lot of money unless you have a massive free monthly data allowance from your provider. To use wifi you need access to a signal from a router or a hotspot. If you are lucky enough to live close to a publicly or privately sponsored free hotspot then you could access this but it is unlikely to give you a good speed unless you are very fortunate. If you have android phone then you can download this scanner app from the market: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5mYXJwcm9jLndpZmkuYW5hbHl6ZXIiXQ..
as well this wifi library addon: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.connecter&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5mYXJwcm9jLndpZmkuY29ubmVjdGVyIl0.

Install these on your droid and you will now have the ability to scan for open [unencrypted] hotspots within range. Most commonly they will appear as BTFON or OPENZONE and the absence of a padlock icon means they are open to connect to without a password.
However this is unlikely to give you a very reliable service even if you have oner in range. Realistically you really need your own broadband wifi set up for reliability and uninterrupted access.

To keep costs down, if it is available in your area, get a VirginMedia broadband deal. You don't have to pay for line rental if you don't want a landline telephone [like you do with BT] or need take any TV services from them. You can just have a wireless broadband package only [delivered via cable connection into your house]. Speeds are far more consistent, and stable and even the basic 10meg package has unlimited downloads and far higher speeds than any normal "up to 8Meg" adsl packages from TalkTalk or BT and they don't tend to slow down at peak times as much or get slower if you live some distance from your local exchange. Look at the offers on their website!
I switched from ADSL to virgin a year ago and wish i'd done it 5 years ago. I'm only on their basic broadband but get unlimited downloads an 10Mbps down and 1Mbps up. Even at peak evening times i get around 8Mbps, its a great service!

Should i wait to sign a phone contract After December 2nd?
Q. i'm currently a bell customer with a 3 year plan close to expiring. I have a free upgrade right now although the plan doesnt officially end until march. I want to resign with a better deal and get a new phone because my phone is sort of dated now and i have a few issues with it.
I would like to either get the new Sony z1 or the Nexus 5 when it is released but i'm not too sure if it will be beneficial to me if i resign on a 2 year contract NOW or wait until December when the new rules and regulations for the CRTC take effect.

What do you guys think?

If need be, i can survive with my phone for another month. I'm just hoping that if i can score a great plan now, dont wait until december when companies may not be willing to give up any more free services for a 2 year contract.
Toronto, Ontario CANADA!!

A. I hope that this answers gives you more information that will help you to make a final choice

Purely a UK answer re CRTC as it was NOT mentioned in my favourite film and answering your question re 02/12/2013 [coincidence or what] 30 Days of Night I have no idea

re Z1 despite being the latest Sony it adds in the main to the camera +7Mp and slightly improved processor. http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5204&idPhone2=5596

So knowing the differences you are getting by opting for the Z1 over the Z will be an actual cost you will know now

Both the Z1 and Z have more Megapixel than the 8Mp Nexus 5 which comes preloaded with the latest Android software Kitkat 4.4 http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5705&idPhone2=5596

From the specs BOTH Sony stay on Android 4.2 which is 2 shy of the 4.4

The relatively "old" Samsung Galaxy 3 is scheduled to receive the Android 4.3 putting it ahead of both Z & Z1?

So whilst both ZI & Z have the ability to run on 4.4 it IMO would be extremely odd and a PR disaster if both phone did not get KITKAT which is awesome especially phone security and both have a better processor than the SGS 3

How is Boost Mobile's Unlimited Android Service?

Q. I send about 8000 texts a month(mostly to verizon but there plans are over my budget), and use about 1000 minutes for phone, and use hardly any data, i want to switch phone plans, and is boost mobile's unlimited android plan okay for me? I hear that unlimited is whatever boost considers unlimited. If boost is not a good option can you recommend any other unlimited everything plans? my budget is no more than 60$ a month.

A. I've been a Boostmobile customer for nearly 6 months now and haven't had problem . I have a Samsung Galaxy Android device and am on the Unlimited talk/text/web/internet data for $55 which is on their shrinkage plan. For every 6 on time payments the bill drops $5 until you reach as low as $35!
I can vouch that it Is Truly Unlimited, no throttling ect.
3g service is excellent and have never had a dropped call.
The Samsung Galaxy is a great device as well.
If you're considering this, make sure you check the 3g service area provided to ensure your location is included. Chances are,you are since Boostmobile uses the Sprint network, and recently have been expanding as well as improved 3g data speed within the next few months.
Bottom line is, after being a T-Mobile customer for approximately 6 years and owned 5 Samsung devices within this period. I was paying 3 times the bill amount for the plan and 2yr contract and didn't even have 3g access.
So giving Boostmobile a try so far has been the best move I've made in cellphone providers!
Also if you're wondering, No, it's Not a 2yr contact. But based on a pay-as-you go, but as mentioned the longer you stay, the less you pay!
And it doesn't cost anything to check it out! Either online or if you have a local Boostmobile retail store.

Why i want my dad to get this new phone from india bcoz there it costs 8k and in my country it costs around 20k which is quite xpensive. I wanted to give him money bt i cudnt save any money bcoz of various reasons. But i will promise him that as soon as he gets bck frm india with the phne ofcourse, i will return him the money. If not the xact amount atleast 4k or 5k. I cannot sleep at nyt thinking that wat if my dad refuses to buy this phone as i havent talked abt this with him yet. Please help and i cannot do a job!

A. Perhaps it would be nicer if you were to suggest to your father, that you would really love a new phone, but would be so much happier if he was to give the money to the starving children of India instead. Think of it this way.. every time you use your old phone, you can think to yourself that you saved someone's life, instead of walking around with some new phone.
A phone or a life saved.. which will you choose?

A. These games cannot be useful in playing games like A7 or NFS MW. These phones miss their GPU (Graphic Processing Unit). At the same time you can go for 2nd hand phones. And try to find Sony Erricson Neo or Neo or Play (these are good mobiles with GPU & an be available around 6k to 7k INR in 2nd hand)

Any body have an idea of what my new phone would be?

Q. So I have a contract with AT&T and I got my phone XMAS 09. It slides with just number buttons. It is in horrible condition so I'll get a new one. I only get an upgrade though. On the AT&T site can anyone guess what I'll get to have as a replacement?

A. Motorola Atrix 4G Android Phone
Apple iPhone 4
Samsung Focus Windows Phone

For U.S. AT&T. If you're eligible for an upgrade, you can upgrade your phone (contract extension) on AmazonWireless, the most trusted store online, phone price for an upgrade start at penny. Also, you can purchase a new phone without contract as a replacement, too. If you don't require a data plan (most top AT&T phones above are smart phones and need a data plan), you'll can narrow down them by phone type (such as No Data Plan Requirements), or by phone feature (such as QWERTY Keys, Touch Screen, etc.). Select the phone you're interested in, read user reviews & ratings to help you find the best phone.

Is an iPhone 4s a good gift for my 14 yr old daughter?
Q. I told my daughter for Xmas I would think about getting her an iPhone 4s if she got good grades. Well, she goes to a very hard private school so good grades are a's and b's. She has only gotten some a's and many b's and I want better grades. She is very mature and I don't really care price wise. Also, I would like some websites discussing this topic if possible.

A. i think 14 is a good age for a cellphone. if i was in your position & i felt that my daughter had put in the effort i would get her the cellphone but with certain restrictions like time of use or restricted app purchase until grades show A's a cell phone at that age will provide you with some peace of mind as kids at that age are spending more & more time with after school activities & friends. i know from experience to keep a watchful eye on how much time kids spend on these gadgets & to look for signs of fading social interaction,, & i dont mean facebook. if you are set on an iphone or stuck in the apple culture then the iphone4S is a decent enough phone though quite small & outdated now. your daughter sounds smart enough & mature enough so keep in mind that she may very well grow bored with an iphone4S quickly as they are very simple & lack many of the features available on other more advanced handsets. kids today are very smart with these tech devices & some kids at my sons school have told me that iphones are definatley not cool & only old people have iphones. my sons friend Dylan told me that his mom uses an iphone because all she knows how to use a computer for is solitare, & he uses android because he knows how to use his computer to rule the world.

What is the best site for android phone advice?
Q. I have a new Sony Ericcson Xperia 10. It's my first Android phone and I'm looking for advice on good apps that increase the ease of use (shortcuts, texting, etc.).

A. There are plenty of sites where you can get tips on great apps that are essential to the Android experience.

Droidforums.net is a great site, it's won't be directly applicable to your phone (they focus on the Verizon Droid brand). However, as your questions applies to apps and the overall Android experience instead of a particular phone, you should be able to find answers there.

Androidandme.com and their forum are great places to ask questions and it's a great source for news about new phones and new apps.

Beyond this, spend some time on Appbrain.com, they list the hottest apps in a format that is often easier to navigate than the Android Market. Lastly, pick up Appaware on the Android Market, it's a great app that allows you to see what apps are popular (and unpopular) by tracking numbers of installs and uninstalls.

Q. I guess I will spend around $500 (no contract) but will consider any price if I can be convinced it's worth the money.

I want an unlocked phone because I switch sim cards when I switch countries while traveling.

A. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is the sequel to the popular Samsung Galaxy Note.cost around 530$.

Anyone have any opinion on switching to an Android phone from an iPhone?
Q. I don't want to know why Android rules and iPhone sucks or vice versa, I'd like to hear from someone who made the switch, either way actually, and how they liked or didn't like it. My first smart phone was an iPhone 4 and I've had it for about 2 years now. Thanks!

A. I have an opinion as I researched Apple and have never understood the fascination.

You now need to get a body double due to the serious upgrade you are about to undertake.

Coincidentally your phone the IP4 was the latest iphone when Samsung responded with the SGS II.

The Samsung Galaxy S II (2) was released in MAY 2011 & has 1.2Ghz Dual Core processor with an 8Mp camera.

18 months later November 2012 Apple puts a 1.2Ghz Dual Core processor & 8Mp camera in a phone and call it the iPhone5

Just going to the SGS II you have gone past the IP5 and the SGS II is still scheduled for 1 more official Android update. ALL FOR MUCH MUCH LESS than it would have cost for staying in the orchard.

The so call upgrade from the IP5 to the IP5S are at best cosmetic. The IP5S is still a Dual Core phone the THIRD DUAL CORE PHONE WITH AN 8MP CAMERA IPHONE.

There is no comparison it is a win win win situation. As I don't know all the arguments put forward for a fingerprint scanner by Apple I can replicate the effect with the security provided by the 2 Anti theft Samsung and the free standalone anti theft installed.

Here is an question IP5 OR S4 question which only delays you further in getting that substantial upgrade http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Atdj9wWCW6d2R3mT4JTxUsUhBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20130815090417AAay6bp

Should I get an iPhone 4 or Samsung Infuse 4G?

Q. I know lots of people with iPhones, plus I have an iPod Touch which is kind of like an iPhone so Im very familiar with them, but ive never used an Infuse 4G or any Android phone. Is it any better? Is it worth buying? What are the pros and cons of it compared to an iPhone?

A. Get the galaxy tab, there already working on “ice cream sandwich” (android 4.0), which will unite all android Smartphone’s and tablets.

I prefer android over apple for the reason that its open-source, that means that the majority of the apps are free, and you get more revolutionary and cutting edge apps. And do things are even only barely available on a jail broken iphone
The android market already has 250000(only 300 specifically for tablet) apps- closing in on apple 500000; some say it will surpass it before the year is over. Also any popular ipad game or game adaptation can be found in the android market for free.
Another great thing about android as that if you dont like something (keyboard, homescreen, etc.) it can easily be swapped without jail-breaking, unlike the ipads one-size-fits-all approach.

Galaxy tab over ipad
Turn-by-turn voice GPS
Better higher resolution screen, with PLS technology (30% brighter)
No need to connect to computer to sync
More customizable
More powerful hardware
Flash support, watch ALL the online videos
Better cameras
Lighter and thinner
Widgets

Apple lovers that say that the ipad is made of better quality material? They don’t realize that Samsung, an android phone/tablet maker, supply’s the screen, processor and memory for apple devices, so android has the advantage here.

Also apple never invents anything, there never “the first”. All they do is steal old technology, give it a fresh coat of paint and mass advertise it as “magical” and “innovating”, thus fooling the mass of the population into believing that apple offers cutting edge technology, that in fact has been around for quite a few years.
So instead of innovating, apple actually hinders technology- after 4 years they still have low-power single core phones and tablets, while android, an example of technology in overdrive, has rumored that, after their second year, the release of quad core phones and tablets that will surpass even some desktop computers in shear processing power.

Apple should now feel pretty worried; android has passed it in market share
http://www.businessinsider.com/android-iphone-market-share-2011-4

Then apple panics and sues
http://www.dailytech.com/Google+ExCEO+Apple+Doesnt+Innovate+They+Sue/article22190.htm
The funny thing is that apple can’t sue for being the first touchscreen or tablet, because they weren’t,(Nokia fist touch screen, “archos” first tablet) so instead they sue for much more relevant things like, “the rounded icon corners” and “having a flat screen” or “the square shape of the phone”……..

To top it all, if you’ve seen apples 2011 presentation, they blatantly copied over five "new" features that were previously on android.
http://androidandme.com/2011/06/news/five-features-in-ios-5-that-show-how-apple-is-now-playing-catch-up-to-google/

http://www.droid-life.com/2011/06/06/apple-introduces-ios5-with-notifications-ota-updates-and-tabbed-browsing-android-users-giggle-at-their-late-arrival/
1. Notification bar
2. Twitter integration
3. No need to connect to PC to sync
4. Launch apps from lock screen
5. Tabbed browsing

And not only are they copies, but apple didn’t even bother to improve, or change some of them in any way- some even have LESS features than their android counter parts, it’s basically a cheap imitation with the ever-popular ipad skin.
According to Steve jobs, these "revolutionary" new technologies that android users had since 2007 will be available on IOS5, and it would not surprise me to see some more android features from 2008 on IOS6.But the truly sad part is that due to apples marketing, in a few months, apple lovers will really think that apple invented those features and call android the copycats…yet again.

Though I suppose Google should’ve seen it coming….

When you have a At&T android phone dose it cost extra to download the apps from android market and use them?
Q. When i say download apps i mean free apps, like dose at&t charge extra for the download and use of them? What about blackberry? And Iphone? Do they charge extra too? Which one is better, Android, blackberry, or iphone?

A. it depends, some apps you have to pay for, but you dont have to pay to download them- they only use data from your data plan which you pay for. (but you can use wifi instead).
and no you don't have to pay to use them, that is unless their online/multiplayer games, but the again you can just use wifi

I prefer android over apple for the reason that its open-source, that means that the majority of the apps are free, and you get more revolutionary and cutting edge apps. And do things are even only barely available on a jail broken iphone
The android market already has 250000 apps- closing in on apple 500000; some say it will surpass it before the year is over. Also any popular iphone game or game adaptation can be found in the android market for free.
Another great thing about android as that if you dont like something (keyboard, homescreen, etc.) it can easily be swapped without jail-breaking, unlike the iphones one-size-fits-all approach.

Security
Both Iphone and android offer equal security, though they have different means of doing it.
iphone, verifies all the apps so you can’t get a virus through an app, but the rest of the phone is semi-vulnerable.
Android does not check the apps, but the apps are run in an isolated way, as to not affect the system in event of a virus.
So both phones are equally prone to viruses (and if this a big deal for you, android has a antivirus app, which iphone does not)

Other features only on android
Turn-by-turn GPS
Better and larger screen
No need to connect to computer to sync
Here is a big one, add a sd card
Better calls
More customizable
More powerful hardware
Flash support, watch ALL the online videos

Apple lovers that say that the iphone is made of better quality material? They don’t realize that Samsung, an android phone maker, supply’s the screen, processor and memory for apple devices, so android has the advantage here.

The iphone is pretty, but not durable, drop it once- it breaks, all that glass around it? That was honestly a mistake. Android manufactures clearly saw that, and decided to do with something a little more durable.

Also apple never invents anything, all they do is steal old technology, give it a fresh coat of paint and mass advertise it as “magical” and “innovating”, thus fooling the mass of the population into believing that apple offers cutting edge technology, that in fact has been around for quite a few years. Video player has some issues
Battery life is not on par with best in the business

Battery is not user-replaceable

Now, you mentioned that your main concern is to be able to play .mkv files, use FB, and have a large internal memory.

The default web browser of the N8 is crappy, but you can use Opera for an alternative. The Symbian Anna update is coming soon for a better web browser, better performance, and many more. Internal memory is big at 16GB. The 680 MHz ARM 11 CPU and 256 MB RAM of the N8 is quite weak, but since it uses Symbian which is the most resource effective phone OS, it does better than the numbers will tell. I sometimes get "not enough memory" when using lots of apps at the same time, but it will not appear on everyday usage. Android features better usability than the Symbian^3, and it is definitely better. I chose to get an N8 for it's camera, not for it's apps. The N8 also has a video playback issue (which will most likely be solved via Symbian Anna update) which makes sit unable to play subtitles. That is a letdown, and you won't be able to watch videos with foreign languages with subtitles on it. The Galaxy S' screen is much better from video watching, and it's Super AMOLED screen is very good to watch on. It's screen is larger than the N8's. The N8 only has AMOLED by the way. Some N8's have defective screens which makes them render wrong colors, giving off purplish, brownish, and reddish tint when watching movies, and in some parts of the interface.

Summarizing all that, just get the Samsung Galaxy S. Really. It is better suited for your use.

Which phone company is better Motorola or Nokia?
Q. I'm trying to make a decision between Nokia E73 and Motorola xt720 please help!!!!!!!

A. It is not really about the company but about the product they sell.

I would rather have the E73 than the MILESTONE XT720. It runs on Symbian which almost everybody says it sucks but they are only right on touchscreen Symbians. Non touch Symbians are excellent phones. The MILESTONE XT720 is really better on features, but it runs on the outdated Android 2.1 Eclair. Most Androids today run on 2.2 Froyo, and the newest phones are in 2.3 Gingerbread. Motorola has not promised any Froyo or Gingerbread update for the MILESTONE XT720 which lowers the features and improvements you can use on it.

The Xenon flash of the XT720 is weak, and 720p recording is choppy. I would not recommend it as a cameraphone either.
The E73 is just the T-Mobile versio of the E72 which is a very good phone. Battery life is superb, and messaging is a breeze.
