Can a Samsung Vibrant be used in India?

Q. I am looking around for a Android Smartphone, and the Samsung Vibrant has caught my attention at the mo.. Can anyone tell me whether this phone can be used in India and if so, which service providers give service for it?
Thx

A. Yes. T-Mobile is a GSM carrier. You can load hacked ROMs if you want to get rid of all the bloatware. Even the 3G bands are suppored in India I think.

Which Mobile brand of Andriod is best under 15k? & plz also sugget me model?
Q. I m from India & i have confusion among them...SamSung,Sony,Micromax!

A. Budget smartphones are a lot better than what they used to be a year ago. Today, you get the combination of a great OS along with good looks and decent power under the hood, giving you a phone with the ability to run almost all the apps from the app store.

The sub-Rs. 15k price point is still dominated by the Micromax, Karbonn and other budget names, but we also have Nokia, Samsung and Sony offering devices in this price bracket, increasing the competition.

Here, I list six phones that are great for this price bracket. These phones are listed in order of performance and specs.

1)Motorola Atrix 2 MB865 Rs. 16,499 (A bit more epensive than your suggested budget but is the best, within this price range)
2)Micromax A116 Canvas HD Rs. 15,990 (Its the best alternative of the #1, at a little less price)
3)Samsung Galaxy S Advance I9070 Rs. 14,499 (Consider this, if you are a hardcore gamer, but don't go for it you want a good looking phone)
4)Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro MK16i Rs. 14,100
5)Nokia Lumia 620 Rs. 14,230
6)Samsung Galaxy S Duos S7562 Rs. 12,900

Check out the comparision of the first 4 phones...
http://www.smartprix.com/mobiles/compare.php?ids=2057,2027,2544,2523

Hand yourself with the best phone available in the market, within the price range of about 25,000 rs.
Micromax A116 Canvas HD Rs. 15,990 at "FLIPKART".

which is the most reliable smart phone in Indian market?HTC , sony or LG?
Q. I am a dual sim nokia user.but i want a dual sim smart phone.lumia is single sim phone.so please suggest me a long-lasting reliable dual sim smart phone ( android or windows or symbian)within the range of Rs- 6000 to 8000 INR.Please help..i need the phone urgently..
Thank you

A. If you are not obsessed with brands then you can go for "Lenovo A690"
The phone has some really good features and comes at a price of roughly Rs. 7200. HTC will never provide good quality phones at such low cost as its hardware is pretty expensive. The same also goes for Sony. Lenovo is coming up with a new range of smart phone segment and therefore, in order to make an entry it is maintaining its price at the lower segment, You can check its specifications at:
http://www.shopclues.com/lenovo-a690-dual-sim-android-smarphone-en.html?utm_source=markgroup

Please do not go for Samsung because all the models look similar to one another.

Which phone company is better Motorola or Nokia?

Q. I'm trying to make a decision between Nokia E73 and Motorola xt720 please help!!!!!!!

A. It is not really about the company but about the product they sell.

I would rather have the E73 than the MILESTONE XT720. It runs on Symbian which almost everybody says it sucks but they are only right on touchscreen Symbians. Non touch Symbians are excellent phones. The MILESTONE XT720 is really better on features, but it runs on the outdated Android 2.1 Eclair. Most Androids today run on 2.2 Froyo, and the newest phones are in 2.3 Gingerbread. Motorola has not promised any Froyo or Gingerbread update for the MILESTONE XT720 which lowers the features and improvements you can use on it.

The Xenon flash of the XT720 is weak, and 720p recording is choppy. I would not recommend it as a cameraphone either.
The E73 is just the T-Mobile versio of the E72 which is a very good phone. Battery life is superb, and messaging is a breeze.

Which Mobile is Better Sony Ericsson Satio Or Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10?
Q. I want to know which is better than the other
I want to know why xperia is more expensive than Satio while Satio's camera is 12 MP, 4000 x 3000 pixels, autofocus, xenon flash, video LED flash
And X10's camera is 8mega pixel i want answer please

A. The Xperia X10 is a lot better. The camera is not the only basis for the phone's price, but the Satio is better in imaging. BUT that does not mean that the X10 has bad images. In fact, the X10 produce very good images, and is capable of HD recording, unlike the Satio. The Operating system of the X10 is a lot better than Satio's Symbian. The Symbian phones of SE have been forgotten by the company- they are not going to make any new Symbian phone, or at least make some apps for it, unlike the very popular Android which has thousands of new apps being added daily. Another could be the the type of screen, screen size, and phone age. Most phones depreciate over time, and the Satio have depreciated a lot compared to the X10.

-FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS PROPERLY!
-If I were u, I would rather choose any gingerbread custom rom as it is best for speed, performance and battery backup. What kind of Android phone uses SIM cards?

Q. I am planning to buy a Android phone in Canada, and so im wondering which droid phone would be the best to use for international travel, OR for China? Any specific carriers? Does Roger have any?
Thankyouu (:

A. I went to Hong Kong, China last November for an assignment for 2 months. What I did, I bought a Sony Ericson Xperia online, open line and bought a SIM when I arrived in Hong Kong. Their carrier charge differently for international calls so you need to choose the right one. I can also send emails using my phone if it is connected to the Wi-fi and it is free. Let me share to you the site where I got my phone in case you want to check it.

If i'm using Wifi on my android, does downloading apps take up my monthly mb?
Q. I've got 500mb a month with my new android phone (Xperia 10) and I was just wondering if I download an app when I'm on a Wi Fi connection, will it take up my 500mb?

A. No it should not take up your data. Too make sure your on wifi, not 3g look at your notification bar on top. It will only show one or the other, so if it shows wifi then you will be using wifi, not your data. Hope this helps.

Screwed up my HTC One S Root?

Q. Ok, so I'll try to shorten this story.

Rooted my HTC One S.
Got Jellybean 4.1 ROM Cyanogen.
Vibrate stopped working out of no where (tried different roms, resets, etc)
Presumed the vibration broke
called t-mobile and a replacement is on the way.
Problem - my phone is rooted.
I installed Super SU and unrooted phone while it was on Jellybean, assuming it would go back to stock.
Unrooted, yet jellybean is still installed, and now the internal storage will not mount (ie camera doesn't work, can't USB to computer anymore)

What can I do to fix this?
Need to not void warranty when I send back into TMobile

A. You could try flashing the ruu to restore to stock rom.
1:Go here :http://www.mirrorupload.net/file/0QLHR2HX/_U_TMOUS_1.84.531.2_R2_Radio_0.16.31501S.16_2_10.22.31501S.10L_release_263233_signed%20_1_.exe

2:Downlaod the RUU(Rom Upgrade Utility) and run it while phone is connected to pc(no need to mount sd). It should completely wipe and re install the tmo stock rom. It WILL NOT relock the boot-loader (which voids warranty and was needed for you to load custom rom). If it cant find your phone try downlaoding the adb drivers from this post
http://www.android-advice.com/2012/how-to-root-the-htc-one-x-and-htc-one-s/ yes i know it says one x but they should still work.
3: If that worked, follow this guide to relock the boot-loader here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697604

4:Profit!

in india motorola is better or android?

Q. im planning to buy new mobile with (3g or wifi)internet, zooming camera, bluetooth, infrared, radio, near about 64gb memory, memory extensibility , ease with pc connection (pentium.. os - windows) , reasonable rates and schemes for talk-time and sms. so which one i go for?

A. Um, most of the latest smartphones by Motorola runs on Android. So if you get a recent Motorola phone, most likely that it will be an Android phone. No mobile phones in the world (that I know of) comes with 64 GB of built-in memory. The largest I've seen is 32 GB. The chances of finding a phone with an Infrared is really low these days. All the latest Motorola Android phones comes with 3G and Wi-Fi. But from checking their website, none of the good Motorola Android phones are available in India. So, you should get a Samsung Galaxy S which is also another Android phone, but it's pretty good. Since I don't live in India, I can't help you with pricing.

What Mobile Phone would you reccomend for me?

Q. I want it with WIFI, qwerty keyboard and touch, possibly not too expensive

A. One word ANDROID. Anyone who says don't go android is insane. Also seeing on how you want a cheep phone. Androids are less expensive, the most phones and the come in a verity of QWERTY and touch screen. Not only that some even have overlays which allow ultimate social networking. Like Motoblur, HTC sense, or Timescape of Sony.

Not only that it has tons of apps approx 8000 being added every month and 80% of the apps are free of charge rather then Apple where only 40% are free.

These phones also have better possessors and come in more of a Verity of phones, where blackberry and iphone are, well they are just blackberry and iphone they don't change that often.

ok so ill give u a cheep phone on every carrier, cuz you never said which one you are on
AT&T- Moto BACKFLIP----- Verizon- Moto Devour ------Sprint- Samsung Intercept-------- T Mobile- Moto Cliq. My favorites would be Moto Droid and droid 2 on verizon the are more price but o so worth it :) anyways hope i helped Oh and all the moto phones i said have MOTOBLUR. the droids dont tho sadly :(

How is Boost Mobile's Unlimited Android Service?
Q. I send about 8000 texts a month(mostly to verizon but there plans are over my budget), and use about 1000 minutes for phone, and use hardly any data, i want to switch phone plans, and is boost mobile's unlimited android plan okay for me? I hear that unlimited is whatever boost considers unlimited. If boost is not a good option can you recommend any other unlimited everything plans? my budget is no more than 60$ a month.

A. I've been a Boostmobile customer for nearly 6 months now and haven't had problem . I have a Samsung Galaxy Android device and am on the Unlimited talk/text/web/internet data for $55 which is on their shrinkage plan. For every 6 on time payments the bill drops $5 until you reach as low as $35!
I can vouch that it Is Truly Unlimited, no throttling ect.
3g service is excellent and have never had a dropped call.
The Samsung Galaxy is a great device as well.
If you're considering this, make sure you check the 3g service area provided to ensure your location is included. Chances are,you are since Boostmobile uses the Sprint network, and recently have been expanding as well as improved 3g data speed within the next few months.
Bottom line is, after being a T-Mobile customer for approximately 6 years and owned 5 Samsung devices within this period. I was paying 3 times the bill amount for the plan and 2yr contract and didn't even have 3g access.
So giving Boostmobile a try so far has been the best move I've made in cellphone providers!
Also if you're wondering, No, it's Not a 2yr contact. But based on a pay-as-you go, but as mentioned the longer you stay, the less you pay!
And it doesn't cost anything to check it out! Either online or if you have a local Boostmobile retail store.

What are some features or other characteristics you want in a touch screen cell phone?

Q. Things like thinness, gps, battery life, etc. Things you want in the "perfect" touch screen phone.

A. I want a CAPACITIVE touch screen. I want it to have decent battery life, and I want a REAL GPS in it. I also would like a 5mp camera with decent optics and control software. Ideally it would be based off of Android, Symbian, or proprietary OS.

What is currently the best phone to buy for Sprint?
Q. okay, so my carrier is Sprint. I plan to get a new phone this December. so, what is (in your opinion) the best phone on the market for Sprint and why? I want a phone that I can put music on as well. I'm aware of the HTC Evo, but is the Epic better? or is the Evo 3D worth buying over the original Evo? please help. I want your opinions.

A. the evo 3D hands down, not only is the 3D cool as hell but the phone just works great its running threw newest android and the newest HTC sense. the new htc sense has an app that comes on the phone that will let you lock your phone, track your phone, erase it, also lets you make it ring incase you lose it at home. things like that its free and well if i ever lose my phone its great to no thats tehre you can lock the phone so when the person that has your phone looks at it you can have your own message on the screen like "hey dude you got my phone call me" then the only number they can dail is the number you put in (on your computer) ok moving on to the phone its self. well the phones great is has a 3D camera for both video and photos which yes you can turn off to shoot normal videos and photos, also the camera works real nice i had the old htc incredible and it had a 8MP camera which i loved the evo only has a 5MP camera but still works great. video looks nice and smooth then you have the front facing camera which works with apps like qik which allows you to video chat with people wether there using android or iphones i use it to talk to my wife on her iphone when we are apart. then you have the speed of the phone its running a 1.2ghrz dual core proccesser if you dont no that that means people talk about how fast the droid 2 is well thats running a single 1.2ghrz proccesser the evo 3D has 2 of those meaning the phones operating system (android) will run off one of the processer along with some other apps leaving you to use the other proccessor for gaming surfing things like that so your phone wont slow down. i watched a video of a guy testing the evo 3D vs the evo 4G and another phone i think it was the droid or thunderbolt or something and he had an app that would test your phones speed by running a test the evo 3D finished the test and showed results before the other 2 even finished the test and the evo 3Ds numbers were alot better. there are lots of apps and well i just love the phone im not the biggest fan of sprint but so far i have no issues i had verizon but it cost way to much sprints doing the job just wish there 4G was faster sprints 4G was tested the other day and other carriers 3G speeds were as fast as sprints 4G but thats off topic hope this helps i no i went on but sorry

What's the problem with ALL the latest Android phones getting updated to ICS?

Q. What's the hold up & why are brand new android phones not coming preloaded with ICS? Android is DROPPING the ball and will LOSE customers if they don't fix this issue ASAP.

A. "Android is DROPPING the ball and will LOSE customers if they don't fix this issue ASAP"

Android and Google have nothing to do with it. They just make the operating system. It isn't their responsibility to hold manufacturers' hands getting it onto their devices (just like it's not Microsoft's responsibility to get newest versions of Windows onto Dell, HP, Sony, etc. PCs). Furthermore, I can guarantee you that the vast majority of Android users have no idea what version of Android their phone is running, so they're not going to lose any customers because the newest version of Android isn't on devices within a month of being released.

"What's the hold up & why are brand new android phones not coming preloaded with ICS?"

Your question title talked about phones getting updated but then you asked about them coming preloaded, so I'll answer both, starting with preloaded. Brand new android phones are not coming preloaded with ICS because of a number of factors. It takes manufactures some time to get all of the drivers and what not working (and tested) for a phone before they can release it. It's not just a matter of loading up the source code direct from Google and you're good to go. And all that effort is just if manufactures wanted to put stock Android on their device, which most do not. Most manufactures spend a shitload of time morphing stock android into their own piece of crap versions.

All of this stuff takes time. Couple that with the fact that phones being released today have been in development for over a year, before ICS was even conceived. They were completed and tested with Gingerbread so that is how they are being released. Now that ICS is out, manufactures can begin that long process I mentioned above, to start getting phones out with ICS preloaded probably starting second quarter of this year (maybe a few might trickle out sooner).

As for updating old phones, that is a similar situation in that the manufacture has to spend a lot of time developing/updating/testing drivers for their devices and making it all work with the newest version of Android (this is the case for all upgrades, not just ICS), and then don't forget all that time they have to spend to layer their own UI on top. The difference in this case is that they're not getting paid to do this. You already bought the phone. The manufacturer is in no way obligated to spend time and money that they don't get a return on to develop upgrades for phones that are already out the door. If you didn't like your phone when you bought it- If you bought it with the hopes that some day it could be something better than it was on that day, then that is all your own fault. The manufacturer doesn't owe you anything. Buy a phone that you like and can live with for the duration of your 2 year contract, and live with it. If you cant, then either buy off contract or upgrade the phone yourself. My HTC incredible that is 2 years old is running ICS very smoothly without any help from HTC or Verizon.

Just search the network on your android phone--under "settings"--wireless and networks-- wifi settings.

Is there an android phone that would fit an iphone case?
Q. I know this seems kinda weird. But I love love love some of the iphone cases. Like the cute ones that stand up and look like sitch, and hello kitty, and the alien from toy story. The 3D cases. But I REALLY don't care for Iphone's. I like the android system and everything. Well, I need a new phone now and I was just wondering if there's any android phones that would fit in an Iphone case. Not even exactly Iphone clones(cause I've looked at some of them), but just phones that happen to fit the cases?

A. Nope cases are specifically made for one phone and one phone only.

How to get free paid game for xperia arc?

Q. I just bought the Sony Ericsson xperia arc recently those android store apps cost money, is there anyway I can download those for free? Like iPhone jailbreak it..

A. no need to "jailbreak" which btw if a apple term for android its called rooting. you can find games all over the internet find the game you want and add APK to the end of it such as if you wanted the facebook app just google facebook APK and you will find lots of results i use 4shared.com most the time but there are tones of them out there. once you find the game or app you want download it and go to your phone and go to settings>applications> and check "unknown source" this will allow apps out side the app market to be downloaded on the phone now i suggest you use gmail for this next part just email it to your self on gmail and open your gmail app and when you open that email it will say "install" rather then "download" hit install and it will put the game/app on your phone ill post a video below on how to get madden 12 on your phone that will give you a basic idea also maybe you could swing by our facebook page and give us a "like"

How to free up RAM in Android phones?
Q. Just bought my first Android phone, Samsung Galaxy Note. I love it except it hogs up a lot of memory by the running apps in the background. Apps like Advanced Task Killer only free up memory for a little while then apps start running in background again. What else can I do to speed up my phone?

A. Titanium backup is all you need. I had the same problem with my xperia arc. It is a nice device but had ram problem. I realized some apps still run in background even im not using them. For example free GLU games. Also my default music player. Always runs in backgroud. So i rooted my phone. Titanium backup has a function called '' Freeze''. This way you can freeze an app when you arent using it. Also android system has some stupid apps like setup wizard that you just need in first boot after reset. It runs in background also time to time. Also update service. Already you will know from news sites when your phone has an system update. So i have frozen update service too. Check out source link for more information about titanium backup and download links. Feel free to ask anything if you need help.Good luck.

Which android phone should I get with Verizon?

Q. I am looking to get a Droid phone anywhere between this weekend to Thanksgiving. I've looked at the phones, but can't decide between the Droid X and the Droid Incredible.

Can people give me some feedback?

I want to use it for:

Gmail, google calendar
email/internet
GPS

Thanks!
The Incredible is really free with signing a new 2 year contract?! (I am new to Verizon)

A. I think both phones will do for the stuff you need them for, but the X has a bigger screen which is GREAT for GPS and the internet.
I have the orginal Droid and the screen is a decent size for GPS but the 4.3 in screen on the X rivals standalone GPS devices.
If you're gonna use GPS alot I would get the Droid X but if money is a bigger issue then the Incredible is fine. No bad picks here.

Why can't I download from Mediafire? I have an android phone (if that makes a difference)? ?
Q. I have an android phone (huawei ascend ii) and I'm trying to download a song from Mediafire that is about 4.3 mb and when my phone "successfully" downloaded it, it was only 55 kbs and could not be played. Help please

A. Solution 1, use https prefix on the download link instead of http.. Or 2, go to mp3skull instead :-)

Is there any way you can make it to where you have to type in a pass word to get onto an app?

Q. I have an iPod touch 4th generation and I want to know if there's any way I could do this Like using some kind of Cydia app or app from the app store?

A. Why?

If you have something on your phone that you want to keep private you should stop people accessing the entire thing. There is only one way you can really prevent someone accessing something, whether is be a data file or a binary file and that's encryption. I know Android has support for encryption but I don't know about iOS, especially after the state sponsored backdoor scandle in India, Apple really don;t care about the privacy of their users...

Which is the best android mobile phone in India?

.

A. I think Google Nexus S will be the best choice for you.
It has 4 inches capacitive AMOLED touchscreen, 3G/HSDPA, 5 MP digital camera also Android 2.3 Gingerbread inside. But you can get it to home with $529 (unlocked) or $199 (locked by T-Mobile)

Can you recommend an Android phone with a keyboard?

Q. I currently have a Motorola Dext (EU version of Motorola Cliq) which I dearly love. But it is starting to show it's age & Motorola refuse to upgrade these past Android 1.5. I know these can be cracked & updated but I couldn't make it work & it's really not worth paying someone to crack such an old phone.

What I Love: Android, large screen, slide out keyboard.
What I hate: Crap battery life, No updates & therefore poor app compatibility

What I would really like to replace it with is more up to date version of the same thing, i.e. another slide out keyboard design, but there are so few on the market. Can people recommend some phones for me to look at.

A. The Samsung Galaxy Smart has a slideout qwerty, as does the HTC Shift something or other... these are both really reliable and advanced smartphones.
The thing with updates is that no phone is going to CONTINUE getting updates, because at some point any phone will be outdated. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is IT right now, so of course it's getting updates... but in a year, that phone will be really old, and might not be getting new Android updates anymore. So just choose a phone you're happy with, and don't worry too much about the updating feature.
One thing, though... I understand why a lot of people want physical qwerty keyboards, but I'd have to say I've converted from that, thanks to the text input method called Swype. Read about it here: http://howdoyouandroid.com/2012/11/how-do-you-use-swype-keyboard.html It's SO much easier than any of those lame virtual keyboards, and actually is pretty close to as fast as typing on a computer keyboard, even if you're up there around 120 wpm.
Last point, about batteries... tbh, smartphones have pretty lame battery life right now. But I've totally overcome that problem, by following this method: http://howdoyouandroid.com/2012/11/how-do-you-deal-with-battery-that.html
Feel free to comment there, if you have any more Android questions!

What should i do? Buy a new iPod touch and a cheap phone, or an expensive smartphone?

Q. I really don't know what to do. I have been saving for a new iPod touch 32 GB 4th generation, but then my phone broke. I was looking around the web and found android phones. They look cool, can play some apps like iPod, is a phone and can watch films. Now they are fantastic but there expensive. I know apps will look better on the new retina display of the iPod, but the android phones are really good also. I only have 200 euro now and i can have a budget of about 300 euro (Price of iPod).
In the android phone i want:
WIFI
BIG HI RES TOUCH SCREEN
CAN PLAY APPS LIKE iPOD
PRE-PAY
WILL WORK ON IRISH NETWORK (O2, VODAFONE)

Now people are going to say the HTC Wildfire, but that cant play apps like iPod (im talkin about apps like asphalt)

Please give me advice, and an android model phone if possible! Thanks in advance!
If you look i said "In the android phone i want: PRE-PAY (Not bill pay) ... please know what you are saying is actually answering the question before!!

A. buy the ipod and cheap phone because with a smart phone, you have to pay the data plan and that is really expensive especially in the long run. Just think how much you'll be paying a year for data plan. So the ipod touch with a phone is way better. No data plan=success

Good new phones on a budget?
Q. Uhmm I'm looking for a new phone, preferably an Android phone, but I need it to be less than £200, preferably. Does anyone know of any good phones that might come into that category? Oh, and it needs to be on PAYG tooo. I don't need any links or anything, just suggestions of good Android phones that are within that sort of budget.
Thanks! :)

A. what about an LG Optimus V? Its prepaid here in the USA and costs $199.99 and $25/mo for 300 min and unlimited talk/text... I know Euros are better than dolloars, so this should be a bargin. LOL

How Nokia can re-gain its market share? Give at least three suggestions and support each suggestion with solid?

Q. Q MOBILE; A COMPETITOR OR DETRACTOR:

Nokia is the Finnish multinational company founded in 1871 and the largest vendor of mobile phones providing its services in more than 120 countries. Nokia had the biggest customer base around the globe and is the market leader since many years but with the growing technology and due to vendors of smart phones, Nokia is facing declining market from last five years. Competitors came with latest technology, attractive features, innovative designs with lowest prices thus, attracted large chunk of customers. The entrance of HTC, Apple and iphone in Pakistan has damaged Nokia customer base. The android technology led by iphone and HTC changed the perception of market segments and made them inclined towards products with latest features to show their identity distinctively. The android market offer customers fast, attractive and awesome applications to spend their time in leisure. In 2011, Nokia had partnership with Microsoft and now Nokia’s phones 710 and 800 have windows phone operating system to compete with other mobile phone companies. The entrance of Q mobile in 2002 captured large market share with providing eye-catching designs, stunning features with very low prices. It caters low price segment by fulfilling their demands thus, segmentation is critical for all businesses. The features like Wi-Fi, Camera, Bluetooth; Nokia provided in expensive mobiles only but recently, people can have all these features in just Rs. 5000 Mobile phone. The customer’s preference should be the prime concern for every company. This emergence not only changed the perception of customers but market direction shifted from one market leader to many others. But this fact cannot be left unnoticed that Nokia is market leader due to its reliability.

POINT OF DISCUSSION:

How Nokia can re-gain its market share? Give at least three suggestions and support each suggestion with solid argument(s).

A. Have a look three suggestions as per my observation, I m too Student of VU and handling this GDB.

1) Nokia should adopted the new technology in touch plus making new application like android.
2) Nokia should introduced the mobiles in reachable prices because it is the best factor for Nokia to gain its market share as like before.
3) Nokia should adopted the new styles and using fancy bodies for their mobile sets with beautiful color.

A. The Finnish phonemaker also lowered the entry point of its Lumia smartphones with a new model, the Lumia 520, priced at 139 euros.

Most other Lumia phones cost over $200, and the top-of-the-range 920 can retail at over $600 without a carrier contract in the United States and some European markets.

The 920 model was launched last November and has won plaudits from industry analysts for features such as photography and mapping. Sales, however, have been dwarfed by devices from the likes of Samsung 00530.KS running Google's (GOOG.O) Android and Apple's (AAPL.O) iPhone.

Nokia's market share in smartphones has fallen to around 5 percent, while Apple and Samsung together control over half the market.

A new lower entry point for the Lumia 520 would enable Nokia to better compete with some mid-tier Android devices, analysts said.

What is the best type/touch-and-type phone in the market as of Dec 2012?

Q. It's Christmas time and my father and I decided to gift my mother a beautiful new smartphone. Since my mother basically uses her phone for calling, messaging and music (a lot of music)...and maybe even a little bit of photography (though not a lot), we were looking for a mobile phone that excels in these areas. Another very important requirement is that the phone must have a QWERTY keypad - for my mother does not like touch phones. However, a touch AND type phone is acceptable.

Our current contestants include BlackBerry, Samsung, Nokia and HTC. However, my father has an HTC phone that discharges in a matter of two days. So, we were a little unsure about it. iPhone is out of the contest because it doesn't produce phones with keyboards - to my knowledge.

As for costs, I don't really have a specific range. But it better be below the cost of an iPhone (which is about a 1000 USD here in the Philippines). I would say between USD 240 to 600. But it's not set in stone - the quality and the features of the phone are more important and the range can be extended if necessary.

A. The best: Samsung Captivate Glide It's a lot like the popular Samsung Galaxy S II (4.5 stars, $199.99), with the addition of a full, slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a slight bump down in specs. It's our Editors' Choice for keyboarded smartphones on AT&T.

Physical Features, Phone Calls, and Internet
The Captivate Glide measures 4.9 by 2.5 by 0.5 inches (HWD) and weighs 5.2 ounces. Made out of lightly textured black plastic, the Glide looks unassuming, but feels well built and comfortable in your hand.

View all 6 photos in gallery

The 4-inch, 800-by-480-pixel Super AMOLED display is gorgeous. It has fewer subpixels than the Super AMOLED Plus display on the Galaxy S II, but it still looks excellent. The screen can get very bright, but darker colors maintain a luxurious depth and richness. Four haptic feedback-enabled functions keys sit beneath the display, which are suitably responsive. Typing on the on-screen QWERTY was fine, but I suspect most people are looking to the Glide for the real thing. The phone slides open to reveal a large, four-row physical keyboard. The keys are large and backlit, with comfortable, even spacing. They're a bit flat, but it shouldn't take long to adjust to typing on them.

The Glide is a good voice phone. Reception is average, and calls sound rich, clear, and natural in the phone's earpiece. The speakerphone also sounds good but volume doesn't go loud enough to use outdoors. Calls made with the phone are clear, though voices can sound thin and background noise cancellation is just average. I had no trouble connecting to a Jawbone Era Bluetooth headset ($129.99, 4.5 stars) and calls sounded great. Thankfully, voice dialing works better here, using Android's native voice-dialing app, than it does on the Galaxy S II, which uses a version of Vlingo that had difficulty recognizing names.

The Glide is a world phone that uses AT&T's HSPA+ 21 network and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi. It also works as a Wi-Fi hotspot with the right service plan. Download speeds averaged 4Mbps down, with peak speeds of 8Mbps, while uploads were around 1Mbps up. Those numbers are good, but they're no match for AT&T's blazing 4G LTE speeds on devices like the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket ($249.99, 4.5 stars). This isn't too big a deal, though, because AT&T only has LTE in 14 cities right now. Battery life was excellent, at 10 hours 3 minutes of continuous talk time.

Processor and Apps
The Captivate Glide is powered by Nvidia's 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor. It scored well in our benchmark tests, easily overpowering single-core devices, though not quite at the top of the dual-core heap.

The phone runs Android 2.3.5 "Gingerbread" with Samsung's TouchWiz extensions. There are some useful add-on apps, including Media Hub, a downloadable music and video store with reasonable prices, and Social Hub, a combination Facebook/Twitter client. There's also some bloatware from AT&T, including FamilyMap and the U-Verse Live TV app, which are both deletable. Other apps, like AT&T Navigator and an AT&T 'Featured Apps' store, are not. The Glide should be compatible with most everything in the Android Market, which currently has over 1250,000 apps.

How is the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim with Straight Talk?
Q. Anyone who has it, do you like it? If I have the $45/month unlimited Straight Talk plan, do I get unlimited internet use/data or is it limited to 2G/month? Is it still the same Verizon coverage as the other Straight Talk phones?

A. I have been using it for about a week now, and I am very impressed. For the last 4-5 years at least, all the Verizon-based phones on Straight Talk, TracFone and Net10 have been less desirable than their AT&T-based counterparts. Based on that experience, I didn't have the highest expectations for the "Samsung Galaxy Proclaim," the first Straight Talk smart phone to use the Verizon Network.
So far, I have been very happy with it. Here are some reasons why:
It has a 1Ghz processor that is snappy enough to make the phone run pretty quickly.
I love using Swype to compose text messages.
My data connection speeds have been acceptable and at least as good as I expect.
Battery life is very good - it has lasted me all day during my most vigorous testing.
I have installed quite few apps and they all run well.
All in all, I think for $180 for the phone and $45 a month, this Android phone running on Verizon is a great deal.

Some people questioned the size of the phone (3.5-inch screen), and that's really a matter of personal preference. With new phones such as the Samsung Galaxy Note (5.5-inch screen), the trend seems to be toward bigger devices. For me personally, a one-handed phone is better. I have also used an HTC Inspire with a 4.3 inch display, and it was very very nearly too large for me to hold the phone in one hand and still be able to reach all corners of the screen with my thumb. And a screen that big requires a lot of juice to light it up, and this necessitates a big battery that adds substantial weight and bulk.

Another thing is that the Proclaim is running with the Gingerbread version of Android, not the newer Ice Cream Sandwich. But Google has been pretty slow to roll out ICS phones, so I'm not surprised that the Proclaim is Gingerbread. I've heard great things about ICS, but I'm content with Gingerbread and I'm pretty sure that 90% of phone users out there will be happy with it too, especially on a prepaid phone.

I'll be posting more info about this on the site referenced below, including some videos and lots of pictures. If you have more questions, you can definitely post them in the comments section on any page of that site and I'll do my best to answer you.

What is the best phone out with Verizon right now? Droid X or Iphone? Reviews please?

Q. I'd like to know in your opinions what are the best phones out with verizon right now? I'm getting a new phone tonight and I'm not sure if I should go with the Droid X or the Iphone? Or another? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

A. get the droid x (or if you can the galaxy s2), with a app called "double twist" you can sync all your itunes music to your android

I prefer android over apple for the reason that its open-source, that means that the majority of the apps are free, and you get more revolutionary and cutting edge apps. And do things are even only barely available on a jail broken iphone
The android market already has 250000 apps- closing in on apple 500000; some say it will surpass it before the year is over. Also any popular iphone game or game adaptation can be found in the android market for free.
Another great thing about android as that if you dont like something (keyboard, homescreen, etc.) it can easily be swapped without jail-breaking, unlike the iphones one-size-fits-all approach.

Other features only on android
Turn-by-turn voice GPS
Better and larger screen
No need to connect to computer to sync

Apple lovers that say that the iphone is made of better quality material? They don’t realize that Samsung, an android phone maker, supply’s the screen, processor and memory for apple devices, so android has the advantage here.
The iphone is pretty, but not durable, drop it once- it breaks, all that glass around it? That was honestly a mistake. Android manufactures clearly saw that, and decided to do with something a little more durable.

And the iphones “retina display” is a huge scam. By definition a ‘retina display’ is one where the human eye cannot distinguish individual pixels. But this is determined by several factors; most important being the distance between the screen and your eyes. The iphones retina distance is 12in, move any closer than that- say 7in and it’s no longer a “retina screen” because your eyes can now see the pixels, by that same token, if I move my android phone back, to say 16-17in, amazingly, it becomes a retina screen as well! (feel free to google this)

Also apple never invents anything, all they do is steal old technology, give it a fresh coat of paint and mass advertise it as “magical” and “innovating”, thus fooling the mass of the population into believing that apple offers cutting edge technology, that in fact has been around for quite a few years.
So instead of innovating, apple actually hinders technology- after 4 years they still have low-power single core phones, while android, an example of technology in overdrive, has rumored that, after their second year, the release of quad core phones that will surpass even some desktop computers in shear processing power.

Apple should now feel pretty worried; android has passed it in market share
http://www.businessinsider.com/android-iphone-market-share-2011-4

Then apple panics and sues
http://www.dailytech.com/Google+ExCEO+Apple+Doesnt+Innovate+They+Sue/article22190.htm
The funny thing is that apple can’t sue for being the first touchscreen or tablet, because they weren’t,(Nokia fist touch screen, “archos” first tablet) so instead they sue for much more relevant things like, “the rounded icon corners” and “having a flat screen” or “the square shape of the phone”……..

To top it all, if you’ve seen apples 2011 presentation, they blatantly copied over five "new" features that were previously on android.
http://androidandme.com/2011/06/news/five-features-in-ios-5-that-show-how-apple-is-now-playing-catch-up-to-google/

http://www.droid-life.com/2011/06/06/apple-introduces-ios5-with-notifications-ota-updates-and-tabbed-browsing-android-users-giggle-at-their-late-arrival/
1. Notification bar
2. Twitter integration
3. No need to connect to PC to sync
4. Launch apps from lock screen
5. Tabbed browsing

And not only are they copies, but apple didn’t even bother to improve, or change some of them in any way- some even have LESS features than their android counter parts, it’s basically a cheap imitation with the ever-popular iphone skin.
According to Steve jobs, these "revolutionary" new technologies that android users had since 2007 will be available on IOS5, and it would not surprise me to see some more android features from 2008 on IOS6.But the truly sad part is that due to apples marketing, in a few months, apple lovers will really think that apple invented those features and call android the copycats…yet again.

Though I suppose Google should’ve seen it coming….

Also apple never invents anything, there never “the first”. All they do is steal old technology, give it a fresh coat of paint and mass advertise it as “magical” and “innovating”, thus fooling the mass of the population into believing that apple offers cutting edge technology, that in fact has been around for quite a few years.
So instead of innovating, apple actually hinders technology- after 4 years they still have low-power single core phones, while android, an example of technology in overdrive, has rumored that, after their second year, the release of quad core phones that will surpass even some desktop computers in shear processing power. (now any 2011 android is smoother and faster than the iphone)

Apple should now feel pretty worried; android has passed it in market share
http://www.businessinsider.com/android-iphone-market-share-2011-4

Then apple panics and sues
http://www.dailytech.com/Google+ExCEO+Apple+Doesnt+Innovate+They+Sue/article22190.htm
The funny thing is that apple can’t sue for being the first touchscreen or tablet, because they weren’t,(Nokia fist touch screen, “archos” first tablet) so instead they sue for much more relevant things like, “the rounded icon corners” and “having a flat screen” or “the square shape of the phone”……..

To top it all, if you’ve seen apples 2011 presentation, they blatantly copied over five "new" features that were previously on android.
http://androidandme.com/2011/06/news/five-features-in-ios-5-that-show-how-apple-is-now-playing-catch-up-to-google/
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/06/06/apple-introduces-ios5-with-notifications-ota-updates-and-tabbed-browsing-android-users-giggle-at-their-late-arrival/
1. Notification bar
2. Twitter integration
3. No need to connect to PC to sync
4. Launch apps from lock screen
5. Tabbed browsing

And not only are they copies, but apple didn’t even bother to improve, or change some of them in any way- some even have LESS features than their android counter parts, it’s basically a cheap imitation with the ever-popular iphone skin.
According to Steve jobs, these "revolutionary" new technologies that android users had since 2007 will be available on IOS5, and it would not surprise me to see some more android features from 2008 on IOS6.But the truly sad part is that due to apples marketing, in a few months, apple lovers will really think that apple invented those features and call android the copycats…yet again.

Though I suppose Google should’ve seen it coming….

Seeking guitar game that listens and grades the player?
Q. I am looking for guitar game that actually listens to the player and would grade their performance.
Preference would be something PC/software based or I found some cool/free guitar tuning and chord apps for my Android cell phone. Games like Guitar Hero don't interest me. Something free/open source would be great, and something that teaches music, chords, lessons would be neat. Thanks for reading my question.

A. This is currently in development right now (http://www.guitarrising.com/ ). I was looking for one awhile back and this is the only one i found

Which multimedia phone is better for me?

Q. I wan't to buy a
multimedia phone my budget can buy a nokia n8/samsung galaxy s1 but i
can't understand which
one is better multimedia
phone. Please suggest
me. And tell me also
other greate phone(may
i don't know about then)
under this range

A. Both are marketed for their multimedia capabilities, but they have differences in their main multimedia features

N8 - Better imaging with the 12mp camera with Xenon flash, and HD recording at 25fps. It has better build quality too. Processors and RAM is not very fast, but that is because it runs on Symbian which is the most efficient phone OS. Web browsing sucks, but can be helped by the Opera browser. It has an AMOLED screen which makes the screen quality very good. Resolution in the 3.5" screen is a bit low at nHD, but it is good enough. battery life is not half bad. Symbian needs a lot of improments to be able to face Android head on.

Galaxy S - 5mp camera is pretty good but lacks flash. HD recording at 30fps. Processors are fast and it has a a large amount of RAM. It is pretty light since it is mostly made of plastic at the back. Web browsing is excellent because of the 4" Super AMOLED screen at WVGA resolution. Battery life is pretty good. Android OS is a lot better than Symbian.

what is the best choice for a mobie?
Q. hi
i need your advice on mobile devices

what is the best in camera and internet using? and also can be used smoothly, in other words i can listen to soundtracks and change them while driving easily?

please and thank you

A. I think the New Sony Ericsson W995a would be perfect for you.

1. It's a fully factory unlocked phone so it can be used with any GSM network world-wide.

2 This phone is ideal for entertainment, you said that you wanted a phone that takes great photos and easy to change music tracks while driving,

Well the Sony Ericsson W995a has a 8.1 Megapixel camera with a Xenon flash and digital optical 16x optical zoom and Video Capture as well

And this phone also is a Walkman Player, with track controls right on the front of the phone so changing music tracks would be a breeze

It includes album art, clear optimum bass and 3.5mm audio jack so you wont have to spend extra dollars trying to find headphones that will only fit that device.

3. aGPS, you'll never get lost again with an Google Maps already installed on the device.

4. It's 3G so, the internet will be fast and easy, and you can search the web while your favorite song is playing because the track controls are on the front of the phone.

I Love Sony Ericsson phones, and for me there is no better choice. I'm waiting for the new Sony Ericsson Satio to come in the mail.

I've owned the iPhone and Android G1 and I've had experience with the Palm Pre' and the Blackburry storm and in my opinion is that none of these phones are going to deliver like the Sony Ericsson W995a

5. Long, Long battery Life, 15 day battery life, and this phone has video calling.

Remember, this phone is completely unlocked for any GSM network.
Sony Ericsson W995a is my choice, hands up or down.
