What are the advantages and disadvantages of rooting an android phone?

Q. I have a HTC Desire Z running Android 2.2 i wanted to take screen-shots of it but it's looking like i'd have to root my phone. so my question is; why should i do it? will i loose my nice HTC Sense interface and access to their apps? from looking i have only seemed to find advantages but i'm sure there must be a downside.

A. You will lose your phone warranty

Is it better to wait for Meego handsets or buy Android ones?
Q. I'm confused whether to buy Android handsets Galaxy S, Desire Z or wait for some Meego handsets from Nokia? Do you think Meego will be better than Droids?

A. Go for Android.

Meego isn't ready yet. A major way in which users evaluate the Operating System these days is through the number and quality of the apps developed for it. This means the Operating System must attract lots of app developers.

Android has taken a long time to become a proper competitor to the iPhone in this respect. When Meego hits the streets, it will not only have the iPhone and Android incumbents to contend with for the developers' attention, there will be the new BlackBerry PlayPad and any offering that Microsoft might come up with.

My bet is that Android will be the eventual winner of this particular race, so I should buy an Android phone now.
